Description

Rutgers University is many things. The largest institution in New Jersey, Rutgers offers endless academic and college life opportunities, all of which can be found in greatest number at the New Brunswick campus, the largest of all Rutgers locations.

One of the oldest schools in the nation, Rutgers New Brunswick comes with a long tradition, which can be seen in its historical ivy-covered campus buildings.

Rutgers’ hundreds of undergraduate and graduate programs of study provide something for everyone, including the natural, physical and social sciences, the liberal, fine and performing arts, business, engineering and everything in between.

Rutgers is also known for its highly varied graduate and undergraduate research activities, which encompass everything from cancer prevention to evolutionary studies to studies in preschool education.

Student life is equally substantial and diverse, with hundreds of student organizations to choose from, an award-winning school newspaper, campus art galleries, theatre performances, concerts, coffee shops and much more.

Academic pre-requisite requirements for prospective undergraduates vary from one department to another. All undergraduate applicants must submit an application with a fee, transcripts and SAT or ACT scores.

Admissions are fairly selective, as the majority of admitted Rutgers students were in the top 25% of their high school class and had SAT scores higher than 1400. Graduate applicants must look at individual requirements for their department of study.

A state school, Rutgers offers a comparatively low tuition for in-state residents. Undergraduate financial aid encompasses academic scholarships, which require a minimum grade point average of 3.0, as well as need-based federal aid like Pell grants, work-study programs and loans.

Graduate students may apply for these same sources of aid and may also receive full-tuition fellowships or assistantships from their department of study.

Originally I did not think much of Rutgers which is why it was not my first choice when I was searching for a 'good' school. After getting accepted to eight schools I decided to come to Rutgers and today I am glad I made that decison. I picked Rutgers over all of the other schools because it was closer home and it cost less. However, after starting my life in college I found out all the great resources that Rutgers offerered for its diverse community. The academics is right on point and the progams offered for any majors or fields are incredible. Also, because Rutgers is so big, there's always something to do at any of the four campuses and it never gets boring. Aside from having fun, I also love that Rutgers offers learning living communities to those that want to focus on a specific subject or field. I live in a learning community for STEMS (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) majors and it's very helpful because I am around other people who have the same interest as me and can give me advice on anything from picking the right courses or being able to manage my time effectively. Also, becuase we're science majors, our living community is nice and quiet which is essential for preparing for exams and I don't have to deal with issues regarding loud volume in my residence. Rutgers is great because it provides the necessary resources that will benefit the students and allow them acheive their goals as they intend to. Overall Rutgers New Brunswick is a great school and I would reccomend it to anyone who wants to benefit from strong acdemics and great resources and oportunities on campus for a very small price compared to that of any other schools.

Rutgers University has been nothing except a great experience for me ever since I moved in. The dining is phenomenal, the classes are involving, and there is always something to do whether it's on campus or off. With New York City only a 45 minute train ride away and a great campus life, mixed with the world renowned academics and cheap in state tuition, Rutgers has the perfect balance of academics to cost to fun ratio.
