Penn State Description
A Big Ten branch university in a small, tightly knit setting provides students at Penn State Berks with the best of both worlds.
Penn State Berks in Reading, Pennsylvania is one of Pennsylvania State University’s 19 campuses. With academics mainly focused on the sciences, Penn State Berks offers bachelor’s degrees in such fields as Biology, Engineering, Information Sciences, Communications, Theatre and Kinesiology.
Since the Berks student population is small, classes are intimate and the chances to work individually with professors are good.
However, since it is a PSU campus many large university opportunities exist at Berks. One of these is the chance for undergraduates to work on important collaborative research with professors.
Also, since it’s part of the larger university system students may begin their study at Berks and transfer to any of the other campuses.
Another excellent opportunity is the internship program, which connects students with numerous work opportunities related to their major.
Student life is also a good balance of opportunity and intimacy. Student organizations range in scope and focus from an ethnic society to a performing arts group to an agriculture club. NCAA Division III athletics are also offered with varsity, club and intramural sports including everything from cycling to golf to ice hockey to baseball.
Admission to Berks is fairly competitive with the grades of most admitted students falling somewhere in the middle 50%.
Since it’s a state school, tuition is lower for Pennsylvania residents. Financial aid is available to those who qualify.
