Los Medanos College is a public community college that provides quality educational
opportunities for those within the changing and diverse communities it serves. Los Medanos College (LMC) is a two-year community college located in Pittsburg in Contra Costa County, California. LMC has an extension in Brentwood. The name, meaning "the dunes" in Spanish, refers to the sand dunes that characterize its location in eastern Contra Costa County.
The college, opened in 1974, is one of three publicly supported two-year community colleges in the Contra Costa Community College District (along with Contra Costa College and Diablo Valley College). Current enrollment is 14,000 students..
The college's faciliites were expanded significantly with the completion of a new library and math building in the summer of 2007. Construction is continuing at the campus; a new science buildings is expected to open in time for the 2008 summer semester.
LMC is a regional police academy for Contra Costa County. LMC has an Honors Transfer program and a highly demanded nursing program.
