American Barber Institute
252 West 29th Street, New York, NY 10001
Description
While there are many cosmetology schools in New York, American Barber Institute is one of the few that focuses exclusively on barbering. The institute’s academics include the following courses:
*Barbering Plus
*Basic Barbering
*Transmission of Contagious Diseases
The Basic Barbering program is less than half the length of the Barbering Plus program. Both curricula cover many aspects of the barbering profession, including styling for men and women, cutting techniques, shaving, hygiene and sterilization.
The courses also include a management class in case you want to open your own shop, as well as preparation for the New York State Board exam.
The Transmission of Contagious Diseases program is a supplemental three-hour course. Primarily designed for barbers seeking to renew their licenses, the course fulfills the state requirements for sanitation and sterilization.
American Barber Institute has an open admissions policy and welcomes all applicants of at least 17 years of age. If you don’t have a high school diploma or GED, the institute offers an ATB test to ensure that you’ll benefit from the education.
