Colorado Technical University (CTU) is a system of proprietary for-profit colleges in the United States providing career training, accredited programs, and college degrees in a variety of areas. CTU grants bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Founded in 1965, the system has more than 38,000 students. Degree programs are focused primarily in business, management, and technology. Colorado Technical University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

The schools are owned by the Career Education Corporation.

Colorado Technical College was established in 1965 to train ex-military personnel in technical subjects such as television and radio repair.

In March 1996, the school was acquired by Whitman Education Group, Inc.

In July 2003, Career Education Corporation (NASDAQ:CECO) merged with Whitman Education Group, Inc. (AMEX:WIX)

Controversies and federal scrutiny

Career Education Corporation, Colorado Technical University's parent company, is currently being investigated by the SEC for various issues of non-compliance. One Department of Justice investigation that began in 1994was terminated in April 2007, with the DOJ declining prosecution. However, another investigation on a different matter was begun by the Civil Division of the DOJ in June 2006 and is currently ongoing.
