The mission of Emmaus Bible College under the authority of Scripture and within the context of a Biblical Worldview, is to develop students spiritually, intellectually, personally and vocationally; and to equip students for responsible and productive Christian lives through its college level programs.
Emmaus Bible College is located in Dubuque, Iowa, located on the Mississippi River, half-way between Chicago and Des Moines. The college is regionally accredited with the Higher Learning Commission of NCA. This is a Biblical higher education center which teaches the Bible, with an emphasis on New Testament principles and the integration of a biblical worldview into vocational and general studies through college-level programs. Emmaus has a Correspondence School division, as well. Courses are available in 105 countries and in 125 languages. Emmaus has a sister institution in Australia, Emmaus Bible College, Australia.
Emmaus Bible College (USA) has about 300 full- and part-time students. Emmaus is associated with the Plymouth Brethren, a non-denominational, loose fellowship of like-minded evangelical churches. Sixty percent of the student body comes from the assemblies (Plymouth Brethren), while the other forty percent comes from other evangelical backgrounds. Emmaus offers bachelor's degrees as well as associate degrees and certificates in Biblical and ministry-related fields. The College is located in a large facility that was formerly home of Aquinas Institute of Theology, a Catholic institution. The school offers men's and women's basketball on the intercollegiate level.
In the words of its president:
“We are first and foremost a Bible college. We exist primarily to educate students in biblical studies. Our students choose us because they love the Lord and want to serve Him. They hunger to know Him more deeply, and would like training for servant-leadership in the church.”
“Secondly, we are Bible AND.... Though everyone majors in Bible, the majority of our students choose a second major related to their vocational goals. For example, you can study the Bible AND prepare to become an elementary school teacher. You could study the Bible AND prepare for a career in computers. This blend has proved very useful to our students, because they plan to be very active in local church ministry and want a career as well.”
