East Georgia College is one of the newest institutions in the University System of Georgia. Located in Swainsboro, a town of 8,000 people, the college prepares students for successful educational opportunities at colleges and universities throughout the state.
More than 1,300 traditional and non-traditional students attend the commuter college, which serves a rural, 18-county region with a predominately agricultural and manufacturing economy. Women are in the majority and the student body is diverse, with a 35% minority enrollment. While the campus is known as a commuter college, off-campus housing facilities for students are available.
The campus itself spreads over 227 pine-covered acres in Emanuel County and features a unique blend of seven modern buildings in a pastoral setting. Between classes or on weekends, students, faculty and staff enjoy the scenic lake, a series of nature trails, lighted tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts and a soccer field. While the main campus is located in Swainsboro, the college has an off-campus site at Statesboro.
East Georgia College offers, at an affordable cost, 23 associate of arts degrees designed for transfer to four-year institutions. In addition, the college offers cooperative associate of applied science degree programs, as well as a certificate in information technology.
The college has a strong community service orientation, offering facilities for community meetings, industrial workshops, training sessions, basketball, wrestling, and tennis tournaments, annual regional seminars, arts festivals and science camps. The importance of the college to the region is signified by the outstanding community relationship and the 20,000 area citizens served each year.
Students have a myriad of opportunities for extra-curricular pursuits through the 25 campus organizations. Field trips, lectures, films, concerts, art shows, museums, and drama productions, combined with a comprehensive student activities program, enhance the total learning experience and prepare students for tomorrow's challenges. The college is a place where each student is appreciated and alumni are to be found among the ranks of teachers, doctors, lawyers, dentists, judges, pharmacists, engineers, business men and women who all began their careers at this educational magnet in southeast Georgia.

From Wikipedia, The Free EncyclopediaEast Georgia College is a two-year unit of the University System of Georgia. The main campus located in Swainsboro and its satellite center in Statesboro serve Emanuel, Bulloch, and surrounding counties throughout east-central Georgia.
History
Established administratively in 1971 as Emanuel County Junior College, the college hosted its charter class of 167 students in the fall quarter of 1973, albeit at a temporary site, as the main campus would not be ready until the start of the 1974 academic year. The college assumed its current name in 1988, when the Board of Regents mandated that the word "Junior" be removed from the names of its two-year colleges.
Recent History
Since 2000, the original campus has been expanded significantly. In 2001, the Luck Flanders Gambrell Center opened its doors, housing the college library, main auditorium, classrooms, and executive offices. The building's namesake donated of land for the college site in 1971. In 2003, the Physical Education building was augmented with a new indoor gymnasium, fitness center, an art studio, and additional classrooms. The Student Services Center was expanded and renovated in 2007, adding additional meeting space and improved administrative offices. The college opened a new entrance road at the intersection of Lambs Bridge Road and Meadowlake Parkway, christened Madison Dixon Drive, in early 2008, and a new Community Learning Center is currently under construction near the entrance and is expected to open by the end of 2009. The center, named for Sudie A. Fulford, a celebrated teacher in the Swainsboro community, will be built according to LEED green building standards and will feature an educational resource center, meeting space for small conferences and the college's continuing education programs, and a great room with a domed ceiling which can be utilized as a planetarium. The EGC Foundation has intentions to add student housing and a formal intercollegiate athletics program in the future.
