The College of Idaho is a private, liberal arts institution that provides an undergraduate education for more than 800 students in Caldwell.

Founded in 1891, The College of Idaho provides a curriculum that is grounded in the liberal arts in a challenging, intimate academic setting. Embodying its slogan "Awaken the Mind, Encounter Truth, Contribute to Community,” the college prides itself on small classes and close student-faculty interaction, while also preparing its students for leadership roles in various occupations and communities. The college's liberal arts education is enhanced with the latest technology, off-campus internships, international study and community service.

We offer a living and learning experience that engages students and equips them with the skills and understanding necessary to flourish in our rapidly changing, diverse, and technologically informed world. We emphasize frequent and meaningful interaction with faculty, staff, and administration, the exploration of challenging ideas, and a well-rounded course of study in the liberal arts disciplines -- the fine arts, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences -- enriched by pre-professional and interdisciplinary programs in tandem with co-curricular student life experiences. On our historic campus, as well as through internships, service opportunities and off-campus study, students become members of a community centered on exacting scholarship and life-long learning. The College was recently ranked the 20th best college in the U.S. for "More Things to Do on Campus" by the Princeton Review and is regularly ranked in various publications as a top college in the Pacific Northwest and nationally.

The College's 50-acre campus includes walking trails, athletic fields, academic buildings, an art gallery, an auditorium and an outdoor amphitheater. The College's newest facilities include a student union building, two apartment-like residence halls and a performing and fine arts center.

Caldwell is a city of more than 20,000 located about 30 minutes northwest from Boise, Idaho's booming capital and home to first-class cultural events, shopping, entertainment and restaurants. The campus is also a short drive away from mountains, desert and whitewater rivers.

A wonderful quality about this area is that one can easily in a day go skiing, golfing or white water rafting in the morning, attend a rodeo or baseball game in the afternoon, attend a concert in the evening, and still be able to catch a late-night dinner.

We believe there's no better place to carry out the mission of The College of Idaho than in this setting - a setting that encourages variety, experimentation and appreciation of almost everything imaginable from the arts to sports.

The College of Idaho is a liberal arts college with an enrollment of 930 students located in Caldwell, Idaho. From 1991 until October 2007 it was known as Albertson College of Idaho.

History

The college marks its beginning six years before Idaho's statehood when the Presbyterian Church's Wood River Presbytery, meeting in Shoshone, formed a commission to examine the possibility of establishing a Presbyterian college somewhere in the Idaho Territory. The commission found support for such a venture and in 1890 the Presbytery accepted an offer from a group of Caldwell citizens, led by William Judson Boone, to locate the institution in that community.

The college was founded in 1891 by Dr. Rev. William Judson Boone with the support of the Wood River Presbytery. It first opened its doors to students on October 7, 1891. Nineteen students showed up at the College of Idaho for the first classes in 1891. The first classes were held downtown in the Caldwell Presbyterian Church and a year later the college moved into its own downtown building. The campus moved to its present site on the east side of town in 1910 when Henry and Carrie Blatchley donated of land. Sterry Hall, a classroom and administration building, and Finney Hall, the first residence hall, were built that year. Voorhees Hall, the second of what would become a total of five residence halls, opened two years later.

In 1893, it was incorporated under the laws of the State of Idaho and placed in the hands of a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees. Dr. Boone served as president of the College for 45 years until his death in 1936.

In 1991, the college changed its name to Albertson College of Idaho to honor alumnus and long-time donor Joe Albertson and his wife Kathryn. The Albertsons, who founded one of the country's largest supermarket chains, Albertson's Inc., were generous benefactors of the college.

On October 10, 2007, college president Bob Hoover announced that the name would revert to The College of Idaho, as to promote acceptance and gain financial backing from alumni who were unhappy about the original name change.

Question: Albertson College of Idaho?

My girlfriend is going to be a senior in high school in the fall. She is already lookin at colleges and Albertson College is at the top of her list. Is anybody goin there that could tell me how it ranks in academics, the band, scholarships, dorms, etc. Greatly appreciated.

I live in Idaho so I can help a little. Albertson College for one is a private school , and it has some of the best academics seen around. The campus is beautiful, with trees shading the majority of the area. The buildings are lovely and give a more classical appeal as well. I am in band, but I'm not sure about there's. I imagine they give out a scholarship for band of atleast 500$ miniumum or more since most Idaho schools do. There are many many scholarship options to choose from as well. All you have to do is setup an interview with them. I know of a friend that recieved a full ride scholarship to the school. Anyways, it is a very high ranked school, very pretty and classy, and I think you 'd enjoy it. The location is in Caldwell, which isn't exactly a pleasant town but it's more on the outskirts. Plus, it is only bout a 15-20 minute drive from Boise which is amazing. Hope that helps :)
