Simpson is a Christian university of liberal arts offering both biblical and professional studies. The following statement serves as our guide in determining programs and activities.
"Simpson University is a Christ-centered educational community, developing men and women for a lifetime of Spirit-led intellectual, spiritual, and social growth, strengthening each to fulfill God's call to be an agent of transformation of life in all its fullness."
Simpson University is a private, liberal arts college located on a 92-acre (37-hectare) campus in Redding, California.
The college was founded as the Simpson Bible Institute in Seattle in 1921 and named for Dr. Albert B. Simpson, a 19th century Christian evangelist and founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. In 1955, the college was moved to Silver Avenue in San Francisco and renamed Simpson Bible College. In 1968, the college was granted regional accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). In 1971, the Bible college curriculum was joined with a liberal arts platform and the institution was renamed Simpson College. The school was relocated to its current campus in Redding in 1989.
Simpson offers undergraduate degree programs through its four major schools: Theology and Ministry; Business and Humanities; Natural, Behavioral and Mathematical Sciences; and Education. The university also offers graduate degrees in education and Christian ministry. The A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary opened in the fall semester of 2007, offering graduate degrees in Bible and Theology.
The school's sports teams are called the Red Hawks. The teams participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in the California Pacific Conference. Joe Griffin is currently the athletic director, and the athletic department currently has several coaches in each sport.
