During the U.S. Centennial celebration in 1876, a group of textile manufacturers, led by Theodore Search, noticed that the quality and variety of American textile products was inferior to those displayed by European mills. To address this problem, the group established the Philadelphia Textile School in 1884 and began a formal educational program for America's textile workers and managers.

Carnegie Mellon's program is extremely good. It's in Pittsburgh though. I'm pretty sure Philadelphia is overshadowed by Carnegie Mellon. When attending college for design or art programs, it matters where you go, because majors in design and art are everywhere, but if you want a job you have to think of where employers come to recruit. The best employers with the most money to offer go to the best schools. Carnegie Mellon is one of them for graphic design. Other than attending a great school, you'll end up with a degree where you'll have to end up competing with jobs with other students who went to schools that aren't necessarily as well known.
I am currently a studentd at philadelphia university. halfway through my second semester i had to withdraw for medical reasons, to make things easier i decided rather than catching up ill take it slow and pretty much be a freshman again next year and take it slower. my parents are concerned that philadelphia university is not well known enough and that i will not have the benefits after i graduate that a better known school will offer.

According to www.naab.org (National Architectural Accrediting Board), Philadelphia University first became accredited for their architectural program in 1997. This is not a substantial amount of time, but because there is an accrediting body that has reviewed the curriculum at your school, you can be assured that you are getting a fairly well-rounded and balanced set of courses to take and the required curriculum should give you a good foundation for your education in architecture. After personally having gone through an architecture program, I would like to also offer this bit of opinion. Architecture is a very hands on kind of field and most of your skill/knowledge will come from what you directly put into it. Most of what you will bring out of your experience in a university will not come directly from a professor, or a lecture, it comes from your personal growth. Professors are merely guides who will give you advise and help you find your path. One professor may mean very little for one student, but be the guiding light and mentor of the next. It is all about personal growth, and I am under the opinion that it doesn't matter a great deal which university you attend as long as it has a good foundation. If Philly is a place that you enjoy being, go there. But remember that architecture is not passive, and you can't just coast your way through and expect to come out with much. Good Luck!

Philadelphia University is located at School House Lane and Henry Avenue in the East Falls section of Philadelphia. It comprises a 60 acre campus in the neighborhood where Princess Grace of Monaco and her family lived. Prince Renier was often a visitor. This neighborhood is far from a ghetto.
My daughter is trying to decide which college to go to (has several acceptances). PhilaU has a major she is interested in - Fashion Merchandising, which is in the college of business. In addition to Phila U, if you know anything about the quality of their Fashion Merch program please let me know. Thanks!
