UPRM Description
The University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, is a multicultural educational institution that provides the technical training and academic programs necessary to become a positive member of society and contribute to the cultural, social and economic development of Puerto Rico.
The school is recognized for its science and engineering, agriculture, and research programs. The community enthusiastically takes on the challenge of facilitating science and technological applications to the concerns of modern life.
Due to its location, the agriculture program is not only popular, but essential to the wellbeing of Puerto Rico. You can take a variety of course options within the agriculture field, from the development of pest-tolerant crops to ostrich farming to agribusiness.
To promote applied research, the school contains facilities like the Water Resources Institute, Research Center of Civil Infrastructure and Tropical Center for Space and Terrestrial Studies.
You don’t just have to be an engineer or farmer, as the school provides a number of academics for you. The university offers competitive programs in business administration, social sciences, humanities and natural sciences.
In addition, UPR offers these three unique programs:

- Master’s degree in Marine Science
- PhD in Marine Science
To learn the skills necessary for your career advancement, as well as the development of Puerto Rico, you must be a high school graduate who has taken verbal and math proficiency College Board tests. The admissions process also requires you take Spanish, English and Mathematics achievement tests.
As a state university, UPR offers financial aid to eligible undergraduate and graduates students through scholarships, loans and work-study jobs.
