American InterContinental Universitys mission is to provide for the varying educational needs of a culturally diverse and geographically dispersed student body with the goal of preparing students academically, personally, and professionally for successful careers.
American InterContinental University, commonly called AIU, is an international for-profit university owned by Career Education Corporation (stock symbol CECO). It was founded in 1977 as the American College of Applied Arts.
AIU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award Associate's, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees.
The American College of Applied Arts, founded in 1977, offered courses in fashion and interior design in Atlanta, Los Angeles, London, and Dubai. The institution first received SACS accreditation in 1987. Steve Bostic bought the school in 1996 and changed its name to American InterContinental University, added new programs, and increased class sizes and tuition. In 2000, Bostic sold the institution to Career Education Corporation, a publicly traded operator of for-profit schools that had been established in 1994.
AIU has seven campuses in the United States and other countries.
