School Description
Provided by Stetson University
Our mission at Stetson University is to provide an excellent education in a creative community where learning and values meet, and to foster in students the qualities of mind and heart that will prepare them to reach their full potential as informed citizens of local communities and the world.
At Stetson, the art of teaching is practiced through programs solidly grounded in a tradition of liberal learning that stimulates critical thinking, imaginative inquiry, creative expression, and lively intellectual debate. The art of learning is enhanced through small interactive classes, close student-faculty alliances, and collaborative approaches that provide the foundation for rewarding careers and advanced study in selective graduate and professional programs. We embrace diverse methodologies to foster effective communication, information and technological literacy, and aesthetic appreciation. We encourage the development of informed convictions, independent judgment, and lifelong commitments to learning that are characteristic features of the enlightened citizen. In bringing together learning and values, the University encourages all of its members to demonstrate personal integrity; to develop an appreciation for the spiritual dimension of life; to embrace leadership in an increasingly complex, interdependent, and technological world; and to commit to active forms of social responsibility.
Stetson University
From Wikipedia, The Free EncyclopediaStetson University is an independent, private, co-educational, liberal arts university in Florida, USA. In the 2008 U.S. News and World Report guide to America's Best Colleges, Stetson ranks second (tied with Elon University) in the category of Southern Masters-granting institutions.
History
According to Gilbert Lycan, a Stetson history professor who wrote the University's official centennial history in 1983, Stetson University is Florida's first university, public or private. Stetson University was founded in 1883 by Henry Addison DeLand, a New York philanthropist, as DeLand Academy. In 1887, the Florida Legislature enacted the Charter of DeLand University as an independent institution of higher learning. The University of Florida, the state's public university, traces its history to 1853, but was not chartered as a university until 1905.
The university's name was changed in 1889 to honor hat manufacturer John B. Stetson. Stetson was a benefactor of the university and served with town founder Henry A. DeLand and others as a founding trustee of the University. The first charter stated that the objective of the university should be "to promote the general interests of education, and to qualify its students to engage in the learned professions or other employments of society, and to discharge honorably and usefully the various duties of life."
Campus
The university's College of Arts & Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Music and most graduate programs are housed at the main campus in DeLand, Florida. More than sixty undergraduate majors and minors offered.
Stetson's main campus is just north of the historic downtown area of DeLand, about halfway between Orlando and Daytona Beach. The main campus is a nationally designated National Historic District. In 2003, the Lynn Business Center was Florida's first green building certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Question:
Stetson University?!?
i want to be a marine biologist, is Stetson University a good school? what is the acceptance rate?

Stetson University is a fine school. It has an acceptance rate around 78%, although that is going to change slightly every year depending on the number of applicants. You should be able to figure out your rough odds of being admitted by looking at what types of students get admitted.
About half of Stetson freshmen had high school GPAs of 3.75 or higher. But, they do admit people with much lower GPAs. Almost 1 in 10 students had high school GPAs below 3.0. Hopefully, you have a high GPA since you want to major in a science. If you have a relatively high GPA and a relatively high SAT, you should get in without much trouble.
Stetson is a small school. That has advantags and disadvantages. You'll get small classes. At large state schools, most freshman classes have hundreds of students. At Stetson, you'll actually get to know professors. The down side is that there is less to do on campus. Greek life (fraternities and soroities) run the social scene at Stetson. Still, you'd be close to Daytona Beach--for whatever that's worth.
To work as a marine biologist, you will almost certainly need to go to graduate school. A master's degree is usually a minimum to work in research and a PhD is far better. It can be difficult to get a good research job. with a bachelor's degree, you could work in government positions, such as monitoring the environment with the EPA or state wildlife offfices.
I've included a couple links for you to check out.
Good luck.
