Virginia Wesleyan College boasts a strong student-to-faculty ratio and has shown steady campus growth for several years.
The college made the 2004 US News and World Report List of Best Colleges and it earned distinction for ten major programs in the 20th edition of Rugg's Recommendations on Colleges.

Virginia Wesleyan competes in Division III of the NCAA, as a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The men's basketball team won the national championship in 2006. The women's soccer team made it to the final four in Disney World in 1 after winning the ODAC tournament for the first time in program history.
