Description
The Houston Community College system offers a variety of programs leading to today’s top careers, for those with and without high school diplomas. With six campuses, Houston Community College’s offerings are extensive. There are seven different program tracks which one may pursue, including associate’s degrees, certificates and distance education for those unable to study in person.
There is also an “Adult High School” track which allows those who never graduated from high school to earn their GED through courses taken at the college.
The programs offered at Houston Community College are mainly focused on technical, high-demand careers in such fields as Health Science, Business, Computer Technology and Social Services.
These allow students to obtain degrees or certificates to enter into such hot fields as Physical Therapy, Computer Programming, Nursing or Paralegal Technology.
In addition to these programs there are also programs for ESL students and a Continuing Education branch for those not pursuing a degree or certificate.
Student services are numerous and include the Office of Veteran Affairs, which provides academic support and counseling to students who are veterans.
There is also the Central Writing Center where the Writing Lab is located. Here students may get free tutoring and assistance with their writing.
For students who are uncertain of their career goals, there is a broad range of free services through career counseling. These include such specific career assessments as the Oscar Interest Profiler, which is taken online and determines suitable careers based on your personality type.
The majority of Houston Community College students attend part-time and, since it is a commuter school, all students live off campus.
Financial aid plans include loans, grants and numerous scholarships that are available to eligible students.
