Overall
I absolutely love Western Washington University. The campus is beautiful and very easy to navigate and learn. The reason behind why I chose WWU is because when I visited the campus I fell in love with the atmosphere and its beautiful surroundings. The campus' location within the Bellingham area is perfect, and the way that the bus system is set up is ideal for students who do not own a car. It gives them a way to get off campus to experience life throughout Bellingham. The opportunities for outdoor activities is great, as during winter and early spring quarter, daily skiing and snowboarding trips to Mount Baker are planned. The on campus rec center for students is also an incredible resource for students to stay active.
Academics
The academic opportunities within WWU are incredible. The opportunities for internships are abundant, as well as amazing study abroad opportunities. Each program on campus has a multitude of opportunities for their students. The programs on campus allow for students to not only follow the broad topic of their passion, but they create focussed opportunities for students to become involved in the programs and degrees they choose. The professors are more than willing to meet with students, and they actually encourage having close academic relationships with their students. The class sizes vary as there is opportunity for larger lecture classes or more intimate small class experiences. Even with varying class sizes, the opportunity to meet with professors during office hours creates an outstanding learning environment. While the professors are all different and come from many backgrounds, the majority of them are incredible and bring amazing learning experiences for the students on campus. They are all very passionate about their line of work and bring that passion out within the student body as well.
College Life
With the three hundred plus clubs on campus, there is an incredibe amount of student involvement. Even with the lack of a football team, there is an incredible amount of school spirit that shows throughout campus. With the way that the dorms are set up on campus there is an incredible community atmosphere. The general safety on campus is very strong, as there are on campus policemen and a group of trained individuals called the Green Coats which ensure ideal on campus security. The overall positive campus atmosphere creates not only an incredible learning environment, but it allows for amazing relationships to be created between the students on campus. Even with the large number of students on campus, there is still a strong feeling of a tight knit community. Along with the strong community comes amazing opportunity to get off campus and get involved in the surrounding Bellingham area, along with travel throughout Washington and go to Seattle and Ski and Snowboard on Mount Baker.
