History

1960s

Originally named Nova University of Advanced Technology, the university was chartered by the state of Florida in 1964 as a graduate institution in the physical and social sciences. In 1972, the university introduced its first off-campus course of study, in education. The school was renamed Nova University in 1974. After a merger with Southeastern University for Health Sciences in 1994, the university was renamed Nova Southeastern University. The land occupied by the university was previously a naval training airfield during World War II named Forman Field. The remnants of the taxiway surrounding the airfield are still present in the form of roads used on the campus. After World War II, the federal government had promised the Forman family, from whom the land was purchased, that the land would only be used for educational purposes. This led the land to be used for the creation of the South Florida Education Center of which Nova Southeastern University is now a part.

1970s

On June 23, 1970, the board of trustees voted to enter into a federation with the New York Institute of Technology. The president of NYIT, became chancellor of Nova University. Abraham S. Fischler became the second president of the university. Also, the university charter was amended and “of Advanced Technology” was dropped from its corporate name. In 1971, Nova University was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). In 1972, the university introduced its first off-campus course of study, in education. As the university began to grow it saw that a name change was inevitable. In 1974 the school changed its name to Nova University. Along with the name change came other changes, on campus, undergraduate evening programs began for adults, while the law school was opened in 1974. Finally, In 1976, the university received a $16 million gift from the estate of Leo Goodwin Sr., and began extensive campus and program expansion. Shortly after this, NSU dissolved its relationship with NYIT and began to create a board of trustees filled by South Florida community leaders, putting the stewardship of Nova back in the hands of its own local board, which is how it remains today.

It really doesn't take much. Nova is on the bottom tier when it comes to schools. They aren't that selective. Try a state school first like FSU, UF, UNF, USf, UCf, UWF, FIU and then go to the private. The public schools are 10 times cheaper and they all have better reputations
any opinions on this school would be helpful? what the best programs? do they have a good computer program? How about medical stuff?

I earned my doctorate in Adult Education from Nova. They are known for their dental program. They have a variety of different degrees, and a good library. PS The Miami Dolphins use their campus for practice.
I AM CONSIDERING GOING THERE FOR THE PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT PROGRAM BECAUSE U DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A BACHELORS TO GET IN THE PROGRAM..ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Green and white. I did a web search for the school name and found it at www.nova.edu. From there I searched the website for "school colors" and found this pdf document: http://uschool.nova.edu/lowerschool/forms/studenthandbook_lower.pdf The school colors are listed on page 2.
I'm currently a sophmore at Baylor university (ranked top 60 for business) But I dont think it's all about rankings, or school when you get the degree, moreover your work/talent etc etc. But I want to work/live in florida after school and am throwing up the idea of transferring/finishing at nova, but* nobody gives this school it's respect, does anyone think it's a decent school?

Look the school is accredited and it has NCAA division 2 level teams. Its a not for profit private university that just happens to also have a large number of online degree programs. That is where alot of people give Nova some problems. Some people are confusing it with "for profit" universities such as University of Phoenix and AIU. Not every school is nationally ranked, but the school is reputable
