Florida State College at Jacksonville

From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

The Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ) is located in Jacksonville, Florida USA. On March 3, 2009 FCCJ announced a possible name change to "Florida State College at Jacksonville" contingent upon approval by the Florida State Legislature. The purpose of this change is to realign itself with the new law designating several Florida Community Colleges as State Colleges allowed to offer bachelor degrees but not graduate degree programs.

FCCJ has five campuses in the Jacksonville area, and five additional centers which host classes and programs for students. FCCJ claims to be the fourth largest community college in the United States. As of 2008 FCCJ has an endowment that stands at $32.9 million

FCCJ's Downtown Campus is the northern terminal of the JTA Skyway.

Campuses

North Campus, located off Dunn Avenue on the Northside, was built in 1970, and has the facilities for many of FCCJ's health, cosmetology, and culinary programs. The Criminal Justice Center, on the west end of the campus, was built collaboratively with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, and regularly hosts training events that draw law enforcement personnel from around the state. The main complex of North Campus is notable for its three-story, semi-closed courtyard design, and unique two-story cylindrical tower (actually an elevator shaft) at one end. Some say that this gives the campus the appearance of a castle.

Kent Campus, originally known as Cumberland Campus, opened in 1966 using over 100 World War II-era housing units as classrooms. Cumberland was later renamed after Fred H. Kent, a prominent Jacksonville attorney, and the first Chairman of the FCCJ District Board of Trustees. In 1979, the buildings that were still structurally sound went into service as residential housing in the community. Kent Campus was rebuilt in an all-brick, closed courtyard design, gaining it a reputation over the years as an aesthetically pleasing area in an urban environment.

Question: GPA on resume?

I have two undergrad degrees, a B.B.A. and a A.A. Do I just list my cumulative GPA just for the B.B.A. or should I list both? (they are the same). For example: B.B.A. in Finance, May 2009, Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL. Cumulative GPA: 4.0/4.0 A.A. in Business, August 2007, Florida Community College at Jacksonville, FL. Cumulative GPA: 4.0/4.0

I would think just the BBA, and then only until you find your first job or two. After that, the job experience is more important than the GPA.

No they do not. However there are several places near the college that offer affordable student housing. You might want to check some of them out. You could also speak with your advisor they might know of a program that the college offers to match you up with a roommate or help you find housing in the area. Here are some websites to help you on your search they have all kinds of information on student housing in the area: http://www.aptselector.com/fl/floridacommunitycollegeofjacksonville.html http://www.apartmentreviews.net/student-housing/florida/ http://www.studenthomesearch.com/index.aspx# http://profiles.nationalrelocation.com/Florida/Jacksonville/ Good Luck at school!

Question: College Info?

I'm about to graduate from FCCJ (Florida Community College of Jacksonville) with an AA degree. I was just wondering once I obtain my AA degree can I continue taking classes before I transfer to a 4 year University.

Best Answer

You certainly can. In fact some schools accept many more credits than just an associates enabling you to complete your bachelors in just one year eg: http://www.transfertoregis.org/index.html Do the sums and figure out what is best in your circumstance. Going to a 4 year school directly after your associates or going to one that lets you do an extra year and spend only one year doing your bachelors. Thanks Bill
