WSU Description

As Kansas' only urban-serving state university, WSU can offer things the others can't. By combining a traditional college atmosphere with the endless possibilities of the state's biggest city, Wichita State is the only school in Kansas that can provide an educational experience that goes beyond the limits of a typical college town. Bottom line — because we're in Wichita, Kansas, Wichita State students have advantages other students don't. Period.

Wichita State University is committed to providing comprehensive educational opportunities in an urban setting. Through teaching, scholarship, and public service, the university seeks to equip both students and the larger community with the educational and cultural tools they need to thrive in a complex world, and to achieve both individual responsibility in their own lives and effective citizenship in the local, national, and global community.

High quality teaching and learning are fundamental goals in all undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs. Building on a strong tradition in the arts and sciences, the university offers programs in business, education, engineering, fine arts, and health professions, as well as in the liberal arts and sciences. Degree programs range from the associate to the doctoral level and encompass 75 fields of study; non-degree programs are designed to meet the specialized educational and training needs of individuals and organizations in south central Kansas.

From health care to education, from business to government, Wichita State University and Wichita are joined at the hip. WSU's impact in Wichita's economy and social scene is pretty hard to miss — and that's a huge advantage for WSU students. Where typical small college towns offer an occasional escape from campus life, learning at Wichita State is integrated into the fabric of the city. We often refer to Wichita as an extension of our classrooms, since so many of our students have learning experiences on the job, in their fields of study. It's great for our students, and it's great for our city.

Wichita can make living in a run-of-the-mill college town seem, well ... a little unfulfilling. From huge annual festivals and serene nature preserves to world-class dining and a thriving arts community, in Wichita you can have it all. Combine that with practically endless opportunities for on-the-job experience as well as easy access to industry experts and Wichita is a virtual utopia for the aspiring college student.
