WSU Description

Wichita State University is the perfect school for students looking to combine a traditional college atmosphere with the freedom of a big city.

Students applying to WSU must submit a non-refundable $30 application fee when submitting their application for admissions. Additionally, the cost of tuition varies depending on whether or not you are a Kansas resident.

Wichita State provides, on average, more than $100 million in grants, scholarships and student loans each year. WSU also offers three of the state’s largest individual undergraduate scholarships: the Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships and the Clay Barton Scholarship.

WSU offers academics through several colleges, including the College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Fine Arts, College of Health Professions, Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Pre-Professional College, and the W. Frank Barton School of Business.

With a focus on experience-based learning, Wichita State focuses on real world learning, not just academic testing. This school believes that by preparing students for future jobs, they are also expanding their experience, thus making them more marketable to prospective employers.

The Rhatigan Student Center is the hub of student life at WSU. Located in the center of campus, the Rhatigan Center houses places to eat, study, hang out with friends, shop, relax or get a haircut. Students looking to get involved in campus organizations will find a diverse assortment of leadership, Greek, volunteer and student organizations to choose from.

WSU is a great school for students who know what they want to major in, and for others who aren't quite sure what they're passion is yet. The advisers here are fantastic, and are at least willing to point you in the right direction. The classes here have great professors (right now my two favorite are my psychology professor and my Geology professor), and the teachers here are willing to talk after class with you if you are having problems. The student life here is also excellent, and the students here come from a variety of backgrounds. My main tip is: check for scholarships, and if you think there aren't any for you, KEEP LOOKING. There is a scholarship out there for anyone, and WSU lists a great many scholarships on their website.

Wichita State University is a friendly school, there are several clubs to join and interact with students as well as ways to get involved in community service. I enjoy going to the RSC, Rhatigan Student Center, because of all the booths student setup, which generally have very informative information as well as items to buy such as jewelry and/or handmade "knick-knacks". One memorable experience I have at the RSC was when the WSU bookstore was giving a fashion show of all their newest clothing in the store, I found it to be a neat way of encouraging people to buy their clothes as well as being very entertaining. One tip I find most important is to go to your classes early not only because it is good to be on time but it is extremely hard to find parking right when class startes; its always important to be prepared.
