Arcadia University
From Wikipedia, The Free EncyclopediaArcadia University is a private liberal arts university located in Glenside, Pennsylvania, on the outskirts of Philadelphia. The university has a co-educational student population of 3,600. The university was ranked 25th in the master's universities in the North category by U.S. News & World Report for the 2009 rankings. The campus features Grey Towers Castle, a National Historic Landmark.
History
The school was founded in Beaver, Pennsylvania in 1853 as Beaver Female Seminary. By 1872 it had attained collegiate status, under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was named Beaver College. The school admitted men from 1872 to 1907, then again limited enrollment to women until 1972. In 1925 Beaver College moved east to Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. In 1928, the school acquired the current campus in Glenside. The college operated both the Jenkintown and Glenside campuses into the mid-1960s, when it consolidated all activities onto the Glenside campus.
In July 2001, upon attaining university status, Beaver College officially changed its name to Arcadia University. It was thought that a new name would emphasize the school's position as one of the top small institutions of higher learning on the East Coast, and would cement its change in designation from "college" to "university." The decision was also made in part to shed its association with the former commonly derided name. As then-president Bette Landman noted:
- "[The name]
too often elicits ridicule in the form of derogatory remarks pertaining to the rodent, the TV show 'Leave It to Beaver' and the vulgar reference to the female anatomy."
During the subsequent years, memorabilia from the former name became very popular for Arcadia students to give as gifts.

I'm not just sure what you mean by "prestigious," but Arcadia certainly is a well-regarded and high-ranked university.
U.S. News & World Report, for several years now, has ranked Arcadia University among the top tier of colleges and universities in the Northern Region of the United States.
The Princeton Review places Arcadia University in the top 10 percent of all higher education institutions in the Mid-Atlantic region.
In addition...
# For the 13th straight year, Arcadia has been recognized as a “Best Buy in College Education” by the prestigious publication Barron’s.
# Among the 203 accredited physical therapy programs, Arcadia is one of the top 25 in the nation and was the first program in Pennsylvania to offer both entry-level and transitional physical therapy doctorate programs.
# The U.S. News & World Report America’s Best Colleges guide has consistently ranked Arcadia University as having one of the best study abroad programs in the nation, along with prestigious schools such as Duke, Georgetown, New York University, Penn and Syracuse.
# Arcadia has one of the oldest and largest campus-based study abroad programs in the nation, serving more than 2,750 students from more than 300 North American colleges and universities each year.
# Arcadia’s distinctive First Year Study Abroad Experience (FYSAE) and its London/Scotland Preview Programs have been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as two of the most innovative in the United States.
# U.S. News & World Report points out that Arcadia’s Center for Education Abroad programs “involve substantial academic work for credit and considerable interaction with the local cultures.”

I recently got accepted and am going there next fall. I visited the school & loved it. It seemed to fit all my criteria. Yet, one visit and research online can't tell me EVERYTHING, I want to hear from people who've actually attended, good and bad.
Still gonna go no matter what, but I just want know any things that may not be evident at the surface.

You need to raise your SAT or ACT as much as possible, but your GPA is a 3.1... that's okay. You're slightly below the middle 50% of students that are accepted, so I would aim higher on your SAT/ACT and you'll most likely be accepted. Good luck!

I would really want to know about the campus life, ups and downs, etc.

Well, I think the best way to find out about a school (other than speaking to someone who attended) is to visit the school. I don't know if that's an option for you, but I strongly recommend it. Also, it's located on the outskirts of Philly, which has a lot of fun things to do, and many other colleges nearby- UPenn, Drexel, Temple, etc. I put in a link to their website. Hope it helps. Good luck with everything.
