ATSU began with the founding of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCOM), located in Kirksville, Mo., in 1892 by Andrew Taylor Still, M.D., D.O. The University has a rich history of providing leadership for comprehensive healthcare education and research and is consistently ranked in U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools” guide.
As the founding college of osteopathic medicine, the mission of the Kirksville College
of Osteopathic Medicine is to educate osteopathic physicians and related
health professionals and to preserve and advance osteopathic principles, practice,
and philosophy.
The KCOM campus has grown over its more than 100-year history to accomodate the Main Campusincreasing demands of a 21st century medical education. It features a human patient simulation lab, study rooms for standardized patient encounters, classrooms, and labs. It also houses the Gutensohn Clinic, the Still National Osteopathic Museum, the A.T. Still Memorial Library, the Northeast Missouri Area Health Education Center, and the A.T. Still Research Institute. Also on the campus grounds are the Senior Living Campus, Northeast Regional Medical Center, and the George Rea Cancer Center.
