The plethora of choices you will make while a college student, the everyday social contacts you will have with each other and with members of the faculty and staff, and interaction in the residence hall, are all examples of co-curricular education. The members of the UB community believe that learning takes place both inside and outside of the classroom.
It is the hope and desire of the Division of Student Affairs to assist all students – both undergraduate and graduate – towards achieving their academic objectives through encouraging self-direction, and promoting personal development and wellness. Our emphasis is on helping students help themselves by acquiring information and skills, and by forming attitudes, insights, and understanding about one’s self and the world around them.
The University of Bridgeport is located fifty-five miles from New York City in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Bridgeport, Connecticut's largest city, borders the 50-acre campus to the north; Seaside Park and Long Island Sound, with some of the finest sandy beaches between New York and Cape Cod, mark the southern boundary. The unique location of the campus offers a variety of advantages to the University community. The Sound and the Park are settings for studies in marine biology and for the enjoyment of sun and recreation. The city and county provide opportunites for becoming involved in work-study programs with schools, government and some of the country's largest corporations.
University of Bridgeport is a private, non-sectarian university located on Long Island Sound in the South Bridgeport section of Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. The University offers a broad range of standard, accredited, college and graduate level, art, science and professional degrees departments. It was the first American university offering the standard array of accredited programs to also offer an alternative medicine program, which are usually stand alone programs; now the university has three. The university is the most diverse student body of any U.S. institution, with 16% of undergraduate students come from overseas.
The University of Bridgeport is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The University is also accredited by the Board of Governors of the Connecticut Department of Higher Education.
Founder and first President Everett Cortright and Dr. Alfred Civillion Fones chartered the Junior College of Connecticut in November 1927 to expand the academic opportunities for local Connecticut youth. It was the first junior college chartered in the Northeastern United States. Cortright, the former superintendent of schools in Bridgeport and a professor of education at Columbia University, knew there was a great desire for higher education, given there were no colleges easily accessible to people in the region.
On the twentieth anniversary of the Junior College of Connecticut in 1947, the governor of Connecticut chartered the institution as a four-year university with authority to grant the baccalaureate degree. By that time, the P.T. Barnum estate at Seaside Park had been purchased. The Junior College of Connecticut was retained and the College of Arts and Sciences and the Colleges of Business Administration were established at once. These were followed soon after by the Colleges of Nursing, Education and Engineering. The legislature of Connecticut acknowledged the school's growth by renaming the institution "University of Bridgeport" in 1947.

College Advice on University of Bridgeport |
Question: How do employers rank MBA from University of Bridgeport, CT?What are the chances of F-1 visa if one holds admission letter and i-20 from the University ?42 months ago
Best AnswerThe University of Bridgeport is a legitimate school. It isn't a scam or phony, but I have never heard anyone say anything about it being a top school. You aren't going to get a flood of job offers from having a UofB MBA. However, you will probably have some decent professors and you will get a general idea what an American university is like. If I recall correctly the U of B almost went out of business a few years ago, but I think they made some kind of a deal with a religious group and are financially stable at present. You need to check on this because it would be BAD if you got a degree and then your school disappeared. Bridgeport is not exactly the most beautiful part of the USA, either. Kind of a grey smudge on the road between New York and Boston. |
Question: Can somebody tell me how good is the Bridgeport University for Graduate studies(I have done my grads)?I just want to know about the university in general, like how's the crowd, studies and is work available over there?46 months ago
Best AnswerUniversity of Bridgeport went bankrupt in 1991, and since then has been influenced by Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church. Bridgeport is a very poor, depressed city. It also struggled with bankruptcy around the same time. I would not expect there to be very much work in the area. |
