North Country Community College
From Wikipedia, The Free EncyclopediaNorth Country Community College is a community college of the State University of New York located in Upstate New York. The main campus is located in Saranac Lake, New York, and serves Franklin and Essex Counties; enrolment is approximately 1800 students; it employs 143 permanent and 300 adjunct faculty. It is the only public college located within the Adirondack Park. The college, located in New York's North Country Region, has additional campuses in Malone and Ticonderoga.
The college provides programs in the Liberal Arts and Sciences as well as in Allied Health, Business, Technical, and Vocational areas. North Country is associated with the State University of New York.
North Country offers a wide array of student activities that center around its close proximity to Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain, the Olympic Center and Ski Jumps. Hundreds of miles of hiking trails, lakes, and streams provide excellent opportunity for outdoor recreation are nearby.
College athletics includes Men's & Women's- Basketball, Soccer, and Hockey. North Country's Hockey teams are some of the most competitive in the nation with both NEWCHA and NJCAA National titles claimed in recent years.
Most popular majors include Sports & Events Management, Business, Liberal Arts, Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Computer Graphics & Design and Wilderness Recreation Leadership. Many other transfer and professional degrees are offered.
North Country Community College was the Official College of the 1980 Winter Olympic Games held in Lake Placid, New York and maintains a working relationship with the Lake Placid - U.S. Olympic Training Center which is located seven miles from campus. Olympic Gold Medalist James "Jimmy" Shea, 2002 is an alumnus.
