As a comprehensive community college, it is our mission to provide positive life-long learning opportunities in our credit and non-credit classes. New Mexico Junior College is a superb educational institution, and we strive to prepare you for new career opportunities by providing various learning experiences, vocational training, and community enrichment activities.

New Mexico Junior College first opened its doors to students in the fall of 1966. Since that time it has grown to be one of the finest community colleges in the "Land of Enchantment" with a current enrollment of 3,239. The campus is contained on 243 acres with over 331,400 gross square feet of building space.

It is NMJC's distinctive academic and career training opportunities, however, that provide the greatest success for the regional, national, and international students who currently attend the college in pursuit of associate degrees in arts, science, or applied science, or who seek certification in several of NMJC's programs in the business and industry trades. And through NMJC's prestigious Honors Program, students receive top-notch academic preparation while earning impressive transcript and resume credentials.

The staff at New Mexico Junior College recognizes the importance of a variety of collegiate experiences, and we are proud of our varied activities that can make your stay at NMJC enjoyable and exciting. Some of the activities include performing arts, visual arts, Student Senate, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, intramural programs, the Student Nurse Association, Alliance for Minority Participation in Math, Science, and Engineering, and a host of intercollegiate athletics and other activities.

New Mexico Junior College is a public junior college located less than 5 miles outside of Hobbs, New Mexico, in the southeastern corner of the state.

Academics

NMJC offers numerous academic programs. The highest degree awarded is the Associate's degree. NMJC also offers certificate programs in many academic areas.

Athletics

NMJC fields NJCAA Division I teams in men's baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's golf, women's track and field, women's cross country, and men's and women's rodeo. Its baseball team won the NJCAA World Series in 2005, its first championship. Their mascot is the Thunderbird.

Statistics

About 3,000 students attend NMJC, approximately 70% of whom are part-time students. 47% of students are aged 25 or over. Only about half of full-time students graduate, and only about 34% of part-time students graduate. NMJC has an open admission policy.
