The history of the University of South Carolina Upstate is a chronicle of remarkable development. When Spartanburg General Hospital announced it was phasing out its diploma program for registered nurses in 1967, a citizens' committee requested that Spartanburg be included in the University of South Carolina system to avert a serious healthcare problem.
The Spartanburg Regional Campus, as it was first known, opened its doors in the fall of 1967 to 177 students on the first floor of the Spartanburg General Hospital nursing residence. Enrollment continued to increase, which resulted in the school becoming a four-year university in 1975. In 1994, the University began offering graduate degrees. Today's thriving campus boasts 328 acres and an enrollment of 5,000 students.
The University South Carolina Upstate is committed to academic excellence in all its programs. This commitment is guaranteed whether your major is in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, the Mary Black School of Nursing, or the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics. History
After the Spartanburg General Hospital decided to discontinue its degree program for nurses, local politicians, led by Dr. G.B. Hodge, decided to create a separate University for the region. In 1967 the Spartanburg Regional Campus was opened as a two-year college with an initial enrollment of 177 students. Because of increased popularity, the school became a four-year institution in 1975 and was renamed the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg. During the following years, both the campus and the scope of the University expanded. In the summer of 2004 the USC Board of Trustees voted to change the name to University of South Carolina Upstate to better reflect its mission to educate the people of South Carolina's upstate region. Aside from its presence in Spartanburg, University of South Carolina Upstate has become the largest educational provider in the University Center of Greenville, a consortium of seven institutions of higher learning in Greenville, South Carolina. In recent years the U.S. News and World Report has ranked the University of South Carolina Upstate as one of the top four public comprehensive colleges in the South.

Question: Any rankings of University of South Carolina Upstate or Coastal Carolina University Business Schools?I'm torn between these two schools. I've been accepted to both. I only have about year and a half left at either school to graduate with a business degree. I just want to know which one is ranked better, although I doubt either of them are actually large enough to be included in any serious rankings. Are there any companies that do rankings on smaller business colleges?14 months ago
Best AnswerUS News ranks both. They aren't in the same ranking group but reality is that they are both very similar. Until not that long ago, Coastal Carolina was also a campus of USC. USC-Upstate #35 (tier 1) Bachelor's colleges - south Coastal Carolina tier 4 Liberal Arts colleges Both are AACSB accredited. Both are SACS accredited. CCU also has an MBA, USC-U (UpU) is undergrad only. Based on web hit (not a reliable measure of a school but interesting), CCU is 17 and UpU is 19. Both are NCAA Division I CCU is nearly double the size of USC-Upstate; One thing that caught my eye is that USC-Upstate claims an enrollment of nearly 5000 but has an alumni base of 15,500 -- something is wrong with one of those numbers or people don't graduate at USC-U. When looking at the "notable alumni" of CCU on the Wikipedia page it's interesting that they are all athletes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coastal_Carolina_University That doesn't bode well for business or academics. I'd hazard that in a side-by-side ranking of the two that Coastal Carolina would come out slightly ahead of USC-Upstate. Neither is USC, Clemson, or College of Charleston though. Outside of their own local market area, you'd likely hear from people "you went where? Where's that?" -- that's not a bad thing in itself but if you're truly interested in ranked universities, neither of these is it. I know both communities very well. Myrtle Beach is a much more fun place to live. ? |
Question: Just wondering???!?Is it possible to go from a small (4,500 students) college like University of South Carolina Upstate , to a top law school like Harvard Law? If your LSAT score was 178 and had a 4.0 GPA?29 months ago
Best AnswerIt is possible, but you need more than just stats; you need to have taken the right pre-law-type courseload, and you need to have done some excellent leadership/extracurricular things during college. And I mean REALLY excellent. |
