School Description

Provided by Saint Anselm College

Saint Anselm College is a Catholic liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition. The College offers students access to an educational process which encourages them to lead lives that are both creative and generous. Saint Anselm challenges students to engage in the fullest experience of a liberal arts education, to free themselves from the strictures of ignorance, illiteracy and indecision, and to dedicate themselves to an active and enthusiastic pursuit of truth. It is through an appreciation of the several kinds of truth -- scientific, technical, poetic, philosophical, and theological -- that students learn to challenge both personal and social problems. Saint Anselm seeks to admit students who are capable of benefiting from the liberal arts education it offers. The College stands open to receive students of every race, national origin and creed. Indeed, the College seeks to enroll a student body which reflects a variety of racial and cultural backgrounds. As a Catholic, Benedictine institution, Saint Anselm observes and promotes Christian and Catholic standards of value and conduct. The College accepts and retains students on the condition that they respect and observe those standards.

Saint Anselm College

From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

Saint Anselm College is a private, Roman Catholic, coeducational liberal arts college in the United States. Founded by the monks of St. Mary's Abbey of Newark, New Jersey, in 1889, the school is located in Goffstown, New Hampshire, directly adjacent to the "Queen City," the City of Manchester.

The Princeton Review has described Saint Anselm College as one of the top "Colleges with a Conscience," as well as one of the 224 Best Northeastern Colleges.

History

The first bishop of Manchester, Bishop Denis M. Bradley, invited the Benedictine monks of St. Mary's Abbey in Newark, New Jersey, to form a school in his diocese. The monks accepted, and a six-year curriculum in philosophy and theology was developed. In 1895, the General Court of New Hampshire granted Saint Anselm College the right to bestow standard academic degrees upon its graduates.

In June 2007, the college hosted City Year's Cyzygy conference. The college also hosted back-to-back debates for both the Democratic and Republican parties in New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation presidential primary. Recently Dr.'s David George, Matthew Gonzales, and Linda Rulman of the Classics Department contributed to the History Channel's look at the movie 300.

Organization

Saint Anselm College offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, as well as Bachelor of Arts degrees in thirty-one majors.

College Advice

Yahoo
just wondering where MECA is placed on the list of best art schools in the nation.

Best Answer
It is not among the elite art schools, but it is a significant step up from schools like the "Art Institute" chain of proprietary colleges. Maine is reputable. Not a bad art school at all, but there are stronger in New England. In New England, I'd place it above Montserrat College of Art, perhaps slightly below Mass Art, and well below RISD. RISD, of course, is one of the elite. What other schools are you considering?
