Cerritos College is a public comprehensive community college founded in 1955 located in Norwalk, California. It was named after Rancho Los Cerritos, a ranch that served prominently in the region in the 19th century. The college serves as part of the inspiration for the renaming of the neighboring city of Dairy Valley to Cerritos.
The college offers degrees and certificates in 87 areas of study in nine divisions. There is also a student-run radio station, WPMD. The majority of students are of Latin American descent, and there is a sizable Asian population as well.
Cerritos College is a two-year institution that offers Associate’s degrees and various certificates. Students may elect to earn an AA or transfer credit, which can generally be applied toward the University of California and California State University systems. The College also offers high school students the opportunity to take classes through the Vesey Program. Students in the program may apply to take classes in the summer and during the regular school year. Credits earned in such a way can be transferred to UC and Cal State universities later on.
The mascot of Cerritos is the Falcon. Its teams compete in the South Coast Conference. Men’s sports titles have included 2 titles in Soccer, one each in Water Polo, Swimming, and Diving, 7 in Wrestling, 11 in Basketball and Baseball, and 6 in Tennis.
Women's titles include 2 titles each in Cross Country and Track and Field, 8 each in Volleyball and Basketball, 3 in Softball, and 4 in Tennis.
