Wesley College, Delaware is a private, coeducational higher-education institution with 2,400 students located in Dover, the capital of Delaware.
Founded in 1873, Wesley College offers 30 bachelors, four associates, and master's degrees in nursing, education, business administration and environmental science in a multi-denominational, multi-cultural campus setting. Originally called Wilmington Conference Academy, it became Wesley Collegiate Institute in 1918 and Wesley College conferred its first four-year degrees in 1978. Graduate programs were added in the 1990s. The institution is Delaware’s oldest private college and has a covenant relationship with the United Methodist Church.
The heart of Wesley College: the duPont College Center
Wesley College and its athletic facilities are located on 50 acres in historic Dover, Delaware. Dover is the capital of the nation's first state, the city has 35,000 residents and was founded in 1683 by William Penn. The campus is situated in Dover's historic district, a major residential community with stores and banks in easy walking distance and malls a short commute. In addition to being the site of many pre-Revolutionary War buildings and sites, Dover is home to the Schwartz Center for the Arts (built in 1904), which hosts performances by the Dover Symphony Orchestra, ballet, and classic films. The Delaware State Library, Delaware State Museum, and the Delaware State Archives are located close to campus and are open to the public for research and browsing. In Dover's historical district is the Sewell C. Biggs Museum of American Art, featuring collections from the Colonial days to the present. Dover is also the home of Dover Air Force Base and Dover Downs International Speedway, which hosts two annual NASCAR races.
