Susquehanna University is a national liberal arts college in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, 50 miles north of the state capital, Harrisburg. Founded in 1858, the university enrolls approximately 2,000 students in the School of Arts, Humanities and Communications;School of Natural and Social Sciences; and Sigmund Weis School of Business. Degrees are offered in Bachelors of Arts, Music and Science. Susquehanna offers more than 50 major emphases, with a student-faculty ratio of 13-to-1.
Susquehanna has many opportunities for involvement and leadership in university life. There are more than 100 student organizations, 23 intercollegiate sports, numerous intramural sports, concerts, films, plays, and social events.
The Susquehanna University campus spans 306 acres in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. There are more than 50 buildings on campus, two of which, Selinsgrove Hall and Seibert Hall, are on the National Register of Historic Places. The architecture is primarily Georgian in style.
Students are guaranteed housing all four years and must live on their freshman year. 80% of students live on campus with off campus students being comprised of some juniors and about half the senior class. Off campus versus on campus trends have been changing because each summer Susquehanna builds a residence hall or renovates one. Upperclass housing is pretty classy.
The Blough-Weis library basement is said to be haunted by an apparition that makes students studying there in the evenings uncomfortable. The Degenstein Theater catwalks are said to be haunted by the building's donor, Charlie Degenstein. He is said to be seen in the rafters and sitting in the seats.
Friendly spirits make their homes in the Alumni House, Phi Mu Alpha house, Kappa Delta house, and Selinsgrove Hall.
Susquehanna is traditionally most well known for its music program. In addition to students earning a bachelor of arts or bachelor of music in performance or education within the program, minors are offered in music technology, literature, performance and theory. Over 100 students major or minor within the department with approximately 1/4 of the school participating department performance groups.
