School Description
Provided by Sacred Heart Major SeminarySacred Heart Major Seminary is an institution of higher education that primarily prepares candidates for the Roman Catholic Priesthood and, further,
prepares individuals for the diaconate, lay ministry and other leadership roles.
Sacred Heart Major Seminary seeks to provide an excellent undergraduate formation based on an emphasis in Philosophy and ministry that will serve
as a sound foundation to pursue theological studies. The graduate Theology programs seek to ensure a clearly Catholic professional and academic formation for ministerial service.
For eight decades, thousands of Sacred Heart graduates have been ordained for priestly ministry, with hearts patterned after the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. They have been sent out into the vineyard of the Archdiocese of Detroit, and in the fertile fields of dioceses and archdioceses throughout the country. Throughout the world, Sacred Heart graduates have served, or are currently serving, the people of God in the nations of Poland, Western Samoa, Cameroon, Brazil and China.
SHMS offers a variety of fitness and wellness opportunities. The new fitness & weight training center for resident students features state-of-the-art equipment, free-weights, exercise area and lockers. The campus itself offers outdoor aerobic walking or running areas, gymnasium, and handball/racquetball courts.
Sacred Heart Major Seminary is located in central Detroit on Chicago Boulevard between Linwood and Lawton Streets. The campus is only one mile off the Lodge Expressway and is easily reached from all parts of the Metro Detroit area using the major freeways.
