The mission of Commonwealth Business College is to provide a quality education in academic, technical, and business skills reflecting currrent community needs, to help students define, plan, and achieve their personal and career goals, and to develop self-confidence in students through a positive mental attitude.
The Brown Mackie College system of schools is a collection of private, for-profit educational institutions for career preparation in the business, legal, health sciences, information technology, and creative fields. The Brown Mackie College system of schools has 18 locations in eight states throughout the Midwestern, southeastern, and southwestern United States, and has an enrollment of 9,078 students (as of fall 2006). The Brown Mackie College schools are owned by Education Management Corporation, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Brown Mackie College system of schools began with a single school, Kansas Wesleyan School of Business, which began operation on Sept. 12, 1892.
In 1938, the school was incorporated as The Brown Mackie School of Business under the ownership of Perry E. Brown and A.B. Mackie, former instructors at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas.
In following years, this school and others that were to become part of the Brown Mackie College system of schools were operated by numerous organizations and eventually were united as a system under the parent company of American Education Centers (AEC), founded in 1993 and headquartered in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.
In 2003, the system of schools was acquired by Education Management Corporation of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The schools were renamed Brown Mackie College schools in November 2004.
