John Carroll is a private, coeducational, Catholic and Jesuit university providing programs in the liberal arts, sciences and business at the undergraduate level and in selected areas at the master's level.

The University consists of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the John M. and Mary Jo Boler School of Business, which both include graduate programs. John Carroll operates on a semester calendar, with two 15-week semesters and three summer sessions.

John Carroll University earned the #7 ranking among Midwest colleges and universities that grant master’s degrees in the 2009 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges.” This is the 20th consecutive year John Carroll has achieved high rankings in this comprehensive source of college and university profiles.

John Carroll students and grads are in Demand: 92% of our graduates are employed full-time or in full-time graduate programs within nine months of graduation; our computer science students are routinely recruited for paid internships after their sophomore year; several students are employed at the Cleveland Clinic each summer as paid interns/researchers in the areas of chemistry, biology and psychology; and 26 junior accountancy majors participated in full-time internships during the spring 2008 semester, 13 of which were with Big Four and other international CPA firms.

John Carroll University

John Carroll University is a private, co-educational Jesuit Catholic university in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area in the United States. The university was founded as Saint Ignatius College by the Society of Jesus. A member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, John Carroll was founded in 1886.

The university is organized into two schools: the College of Arts and Sciences and the Boler School of Business, each defining its own academic programs at the graduate and undergraduate level under the auspices of the Academic Vice President. Since the mid 20th century, the university has been expanding both its campus resources and influence worldwide. Several new academic and residence buildings have been constructed and the university has expanded its international programs.

History

John Carroll University was founded in 1886 under the title of St. Ignatius College as a "college for men." It has been in continuous operation as a degree-granting institution since that time. Founded as the 19th of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States, it was founded 97 years after Georgetown University.

The Jesuits who founded St. Ignatius College were exiles from Germany, forced out by Bismarck's Kulturkampf. They brought with them the traditional structure of the Jesuit college as an extension of the apostolate of the religious community to prepare the student morally as well as intellectually. The principal instrument of this education was the classical course of seven years, in which the first three years were devoted to learning languages as necessary tools. The student was then considered prepared for university work. The next four years were devoted to the study of classical literature and Latin and Greek prose and poetry, and to developing the ability to express one's self in these languages, as well as in the vernacular, orally and in writing. The final year was devoted to philosophy. There were also electives in the sciences, history, and geography, as well as other subjects. If the student completed only six years, a certificate was given. Completion of the year of philosophy made the student eligible for the baccalaureate degree, which the college was empowered to grant when it was chartered in 1890 (State of Ohio 1890). The first two degrees were awarded in 1895.

I would say that you have a good chance! Your GPA is at least at the 58th percentile, I'd say, of GPAs at John Carroll. Your ACT is unfortunately below the middle 50%, so I'd try and take it again to see if you could at least get a 21. The ACT and your GPA aren't all that matters, though. Your extracurriculars, the courses you select (how challenging they are), volunteer work, class rank and application essay also have a say in your acceptance. I would say you have pretty good chance!

I hadn't heard of it before this question, but I looked it up, and it is ranked 7th best for masters degrees in the midwest by US News. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/directory/brief/drglance_3050_brief.php They don't appear to have a law school, but for undergrad studies, there is an english department. http://www.jcu.edu/A&S/departments.htm

Both are excellent schools. John Carroll University is better known for their school of business. However Canisius College offers a very individualized program. Tough choice, but either one will be great. Enjoy.
