Briarwood College School Description

Briarwood College is a student-centered private institution for men and women that fosters and encourages a commitment to learning throughout their lives.

The Mission of the College is to provide an education that is practical in its application, yet stresses the need for students to use the resources of their own minds, with particular emphasis on the development of the self through discipline, responsibility and strength of expression.

The 21st century economy has become less about jobs and more about skills. Whether you're a recent high school graduate or you want to advance or change your career, Briarwood College offers degree programs for the most in-demand careers, as well as internships where you gain first-hand knowledge and experience in your career field.

We're a small college and our unique approach to education provides the academic and personal support you need to be successful. Briarwood College graduates have an excellent reputation among employers-business, industries, health care services, and professional offices are anxious to hire our graduates. Twenty six percent of full time, first time in college freshmen entering Briarwood College in the fall 2005 graduated with an associate's degree within three years.

Briarwood's 43-acre campus, nestled at the base of Mount Southington, is approximately 20 miles from downtown Hartford, and is easily accessible to Bradley International Airport. The campus setting, while minutes away from the town and Interstate I-84, projects a picturesque and spacious quality. It is only a few miles from Queen Street, a major local thoroughfare offering numerous shops, restaurants, and services. Nearby is a popular amusement park, Lake Compounce, as well as an 18-hole golf course, fitness center, the Mount Southington ski area, and the headquarters of ESPN, the world leader in sports broadcasting.

The greater Hartford area offers numerous restaurants, indoor and outdoor concert venues, theaters, museums, parks, and shopping centers. It is also the home of 7 colleges and universities.

Briarwood College is a private, for-profit associate's college. A co-educational residential school with an enrollment of 637, Briarwood College is located in Southington, Connecticut.

Briarwood is known for its mortuary science, occupational therapy assistant, dental hygiene, and criminal justice programs.

As of the Spring Semester of 2007, Briarwood is the only institution in Connecticut offering a mortuary program. Mortuary science has the highest number of students, followed by criminal justice studies. There is an average of three mortuary students for every criminal justice student per semester.

Briarwood had offered computer science classes, but discontinued this focus.
