Founded in 1898, Snead State has built a reputation of offering quality academic and career technical programs. The College has successfully meshed its proven method of teaching with cutting-edge technology.
We also strive to make it as convenient as possible for students to pursue their education. With our day, evening, and weekend classes, as well as our online option, students have several opportunities that enable one to juggle a full course load with the demands of a busy lifestyle. Our main campus is in Boaz, but instructional sites in Arab and Cleveland allow us to also conveniently meet the needs of students in those areas.
Our programs of study include academic transfer, career and applied technology, continuing education, and workforce development. With the availability of the STARS guide, transferring credits from Snead State to the university of your choice has never been simpler.
The philosophy at Snead State is to put you, the student, first. Always. The faculty at Snead State are experts in their field. They are not graduate students. They know their subject area. Working students need flexibility. You can take your classes weekday mornings, weekday evenings, weekends, and online any time. Classes at Snead State are smaller, giving you the opportunity to get one-on-one attention from your instructor. The average class size is less than 19 students.

History
Snead State was founded in 1898 as Boaz Seminary. Classes were first held in the home of the E.B.L. Elder family, but quickly grew. By 1906, a Boaz businessman, John H. Snead had donated time, energy, money, and land to the seminary. In his honor, the school was renamed John H. Snead Seminary.
In 1935, Snead State College was chartered by the state of Alabama and began to function as a junior college. Snead State College was accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1941. In 1967, the college was brought under the control of the Alabama State Board of Education and was renamed Snead State Junior College. In 1992, the name of the college was once again changed to reflect the role that the college serves in the community. Today, Snead State Community College, serves more than 3,000 students from all over northern Alabama as well as surrounding states.
The school's athletic teams are called the Parsons. Sports include men and women's basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, cheerleading, volleyball, and dance team.
