Miami Lakes Educational Center offers over thirty vocational training programs for adults. Additionally, there are numerous programs available in General Adult Education to assist you. Attain your G.E.D. high school diploma or increase your English comprehension by taking an E.S.O.L. or V.E.S.O.L. course, English or Vocational English for Speakers of Other Languages.
Most training programs are Open-entry/Open-exit, meaning you are able to enter a program at any time, given available space in the class, and work at your own pace toward completion. Many of our programs are taught during both daytime and evening hours to fit your schedule. As a fully accredited school, financial aid is available to assit you toward reaching your educational goals, if you meet the financial aid qualification guidelines.
MLEC operates on a trimester basis. Generally, classes begin three times a year, with trimesters beginning in early January, late April and late August. Whether you want to start a new career or enhance your skills in your present position, Miami Lakes Educational Center is the right place for you.
Miami Lakes Educational Center is part of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system. It is one of only three area vocational-technical training centers. It is the only dual-delivery school in Miami-Dade County, providing adult vocational training in conjunction with a full-service high school. This allows the high school students to attend regular academic classes and technical or vocational training programs during the same school day on the same school campus. Upon graduation, high school students can receive both a high school diploma and a certificate of completion from the vocational training program in which they participate.
Academy Miami Lakes Educational Center (MLEC) currently has 5 academies. Health academy, Cambridge academy, Communication & Entertainment academy, *Technical/Industrial academy, Telecommunications & Information systems academy, and Entrepreneurship academy.
Upon poll, Health academy has the most students. To qualify for the cambridge academy, you need a minimum Grade point average(G.P.A) of "3.0".
