Accelerated, Certified Training (ACT) is delivered by Ivy Tech Community College's Department of Workforce and Economic Development. Lafayette is a city in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, U.S., 63 miles (101 km) northwest of Indianapolis. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 56,397. The city is the county seat of Tippecanoe County. West Lafayette, on the other side of the Wabash River, is home to Purdue University, which has a large impact on both communities. Together, Lafayette and West Lafayette form the core of the Lafayette, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area, which, as of the 2000 census, had a total population of 183,340, the 215th largest metropolitan area in the United States.

History

The area around what is now Tippecanoe County was inhabited by a tribe of Miami Indians known as the Ouiatenon or Weas. The French government established Fort Ouiatenon in 1717 across the Wabash River and three miles (5 km) south of the location of present-day Lafayette. The fort became the center of trade for fur trappers, merchants and Indians. An annual reenactment and festival known as The Feast of the Hunters' Moon takes place there each fall.

Lafayette was platted by the river trader William Digby, in May 1825. The town was made county seat for the newly formed Tippecanoe County soon after in 1826. Like many small frontier towns, Lafayette was officially named for General Lafayette, a French military hero who fought with and significantly aided the American Army during the American Revolutionary War (September 6, 1757—May 20, 1834).

In its earliest days Lafayette was a shipping center on the Wabash River. The Wabash and Erie Canal in the 1840s further cemented Lafayette's regional prominence, which was also escalated by the arrival of the railroads in the 1850s. The Monon Railroad connected Lafayette with other sections of Indiana.

Question: Do credits transfer from Ivy Tech Community College to the University of Indianapolis?

I have a ton of college credits through my high school from ivy tech, and was thinking of taking some online classes this summer through ivy tech as well to get general ed. out of the way. Will they transfer?

one does not get GenEd credits 'out of the way'... GenEd courses should be spread out over the course of the program, This eases scheduling later on, and allows you to mature into a student. You would have to ask the Registrars office at UofIndiana about if they accept IvyTech credits....

Community college is not a waste of time...the stuff you learn there is the same stuff you learn in your first two years...Just be sure to look at the requirements of the major at the college you want to go to so you'll have all the courses you need to succeed....I went straight to a four year college but a friend of mine is at a comm college and he's doing the same stuff...Just make sure you get the best grades possible and take the classes that will set you up for success in your 4yr college...Talk to advisers at both the comm college and the 4 year school....Comm college is a cheaper way to get a good education so if money is tight than it's not a waste of time....

OK...I start next month. I was wondering if anyone had completed that RN program in the Associates degree capacity.? I would be interested in any information if you are working as a nurse right now and how going to a community college may have affected you? Do you make the same pay as a four year degree? Do you feel like you should have just went to a four year college......? Was the program as fast as it sounds....two years isnt long after your prerequisites? Can you describe what clinicals included/time?/days of the week./how many months do they last? thanks so much

Don't listen to the above answer. The person is a pompous, arrogant jackass, who thinks because she went to college she is "smarter" and "more worthy" than others. She's a moron if she thinks you don't learn about the different branches of medicine and their nomenclature in a community/technical college, but that's not suprising from reading her post. She had to write it to make herself feel better because other nurses that didn't spend half the money she did on her education can do her job just as well, if not better than her. Good luck.
