School Description
Provided by Mesivta Torah Vodaath Rabbinical Seminary

The founders of MTVRS had one motivation: to provide scholastic and moral training for young Jewish men, in a world of conflicting ideologies and kaleidescopic social change. It was the profound conviction of the men who received and executed the plans for the Mesivta that the truths and ideals revealed in the Bible, expounded upon in the Talmud, and elucidated by countless traditional commentaries, transcended the shifts of society with the veracity and vitality remaining undiminished through the ages.

Mesivta Torah Vodaath Rabbinical Seminary From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

Yeshiva Torah Vodaas (or Mesivta Torah Vodaas) is a yeshiva located in the Kensington neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. It was originally founded as a yeshiva elementary school in 1917 by Binyomin Wilhelm, his friend Leibish (Louis) Dershowitz and Rabbi Zev Gold. Rabbi Gold was elected as the yeshivas first president and chose to name Torah Vodaas after the yeshiva of Rabbi Yitzchak Yaacov Reines in Lida where he had studied in his youth. The founding members of the yeshiva soon offered the principalship of the institution to Rabbi Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz. From 1922 to 1948, the yeshiva was headed by Rabbi Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz, under whose leadership a yeshiva high school - known as the Mesivta - was opened in 1927. Later he opened a Yeshiva Gedola as well.

"Torah im Derech Eretz" historically influenced the yeshiva's philosophy , but today it is strictly haredi.

One of the current roshei yeshiva is Rabbi Yisroel Belsky, who is also a posek for the Orthodox Union. The yeshiva has had many prominent roshei yeshiva, including Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Pam, Rabbi Shlomo Heiman, Rabbi Yaakov Kaminetsky, Rabbi Gedalia Schorr, and Rabbi Reuvain Grozovsky.
