Located in Hampden-Sydney, Virginia, Hampden-Sydney College was established more than 230 years ago as a college for men, a designation that it maintains to this day. In addition to intellectual rigor, a Hampden-Sydney education emphasizes the importance of living a moral and ethical life. Outside of class, Hampden-Sydney offers an active and engaged college life as well.
Hampden-Sydney’s academics include traditional liberal arts majors like:

Hampden-Sydney also awards degrees in fields like engineering and medicine in collaboration with George Washington University and University of Virginia.
To educate its students to be articulate communicators and strong critical thinkers, Hampden-Sydney requires all of its students to engage in a rhetoric program, where they learn to communicate, persuade and debate through writing and speech.
Both in and out of the classroom, Hampden-Sydney enforces behavioral standards and guidelines, which promote strong moral and ethical character.
College life options at Hampden-Sydney include more than 60 student clubs and organizations.
Prospective students may apply for regular decision, early decision or early action admissions. In addition to an application, applicants must submit transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, an essay and a teacher recommendation. A campus interview is also suggested and even mandatory in certain instances.
Loans, Pell grants and work-study are some of the forms of financial aid intended for those with a financial need. Academic scholarships may also be awarded based on merit.
