Saint Joseph College, a Roman Catholic liberal arts women's college. It is located in West Hartford, Connecticut and was founded in 1932 by the Sisters of Mercy of Connecticut.

History

Saint Joseph College was founded in 1932 by the Sisters of Mercy to provide undergraduate women a liberal arts education with an emphasis on professional opportunities. The College is a community which strives to promote the development of the whole person in a caring environment that encourages strong ethical values, personal integrity and a sense of responsibility to the needs of society. Over the years, the College has remained true to this vision, offering undergraduate women a solid professional training grounded in the liberal arts. A coeducational graduate school, founded in 1959, is recognized for its strong programs in Education and the Biological Sciences. Consistently cited on the national level for the quality of its academic programs, Saint Joseph College is committed to responding to the needs of an ever changing society. Today, the College serves the needs of a diverse, intergenerational student body while remaining true to its original mission.

Student Life

Saint Joseph has five residence halls: Madonna, McAuley, Assumption, Mercy, and Rosary. Madonna, the largest hall, houses 176 residents on 3 floors. McAuley, the latest addition to Saint Joseph housing, was established in 1955. Additionally, Mercy Hall holds the Office of the President, Campus Safety, Student Financial Services Center and the Academic Resources Center. Other buildings on campus include McDonough Hall, Lynch Hall, Lourdes Hall, McGovern Hall (which includes the dining hall), The Pope Pius XII Library, The Bruyette Anthenaeum, The Conner Chapel of our Lady, The O'Connell Athletic Center, The Gengras Center, and The "Little Red House". Soccer, lacrosse, tennis and softball fields can also be found toward the back of the campus.
