Question: Can an undergraduate skip fall semester and apply for spring ?

I'm a homeschool student, and I'm having trouble with college, and my family can't help me since none of them have even graduated high school. I'm getting my diploma soon, and I don't think I'll be able to get it by the fall deadline for the school i'm interested in, University of Tennessee Chattanooga (UTC). =] Which means i'll have to wait til spring semester to apply. I know it may sound like a dumb question, but i just couldn't find my answer anywhere. If i can't apply there for spring semester, do you guys know any good schools in TN who will allow it ? thanks for any feedback

Back during my senior year I filled out tons of applications for many different universities and colleges. Every application that I can remember had something specifying which semester you were applying for. You could send in your application for either fall or spring. Some schools might not let you file for spring semester till the fall semester is already in gear. One of my friends went to a large university, but went in the spring instead of fall. So, long story short, yes. You have a 99% chance, but as a person above suggested call the admissions office to be sure. As for schools in TN that are good and allow it. Most universities or state colleges would be fine, depending on your major. If anything, late arrival would probably easier to achieve at a college than a university, due to size and number of students. I went on their website and went to the admissions section, read a little, and they said at the moment they are only taking Summer '09 and Fall '09 applications. That would leave me to believe yes to your question. Just call the office for a legit answer.

Your first consideration has to be what you hope to major in, and what size school you want to attend. UTK is huge, and you will be running all over the place! That said, I loved the two years I spent there in the late 70's. Yes, it can be a party place, but certainly does not have to be your focus. But be prepared to have classes with hundreds of other students, especially during those core classes freshman year. If going to a smaller, urban school is more your style, then look to UTC. Chattanooga is a lovely city, but not too big. The campus is in a beautiful part of town, the city is ringed with mountains and the weather is very pleasant. MTSU is in Murfreesboro, which has a small town feel, IMHO. Also very pretty. And you are near Nashville, which is my favorite city in Tennessee. There is also ETSU, East Tennessee, which is located in the tri-city area near the VA/TN border. And UT Memphis which has a very strong health studies reputation. And Tennessee has other great schools, both public and private. So you have your work cut out for you! Good luck and GO VOLS!!

Question: state universities?

will it be harder for me to get into state schools such as the university of tennessee-knoxville, university of tennessee chattanooga ,university of north carolina wilmington and uconn just because i dont live in those states?

It is always more difficult to get into state universities if you live out of state. But it probably depends a lot on the school. The University of Washington is the big state school that most people want to go to in WA state, and I hear of very few out of state students getting accepted. However, UW is a very competitive school (average entrance GPA: 3.7). So it probably depends on how competitive the school is. If they have a lot of high quality applicants your job is harder. However, if there are not so many applicants your job is easier. The average entrance GPA for your schools are as follows: U of T Knoxville: Average GPA: 3.60 Average ACT: 25 U of t Chattanooga: Average GPA: 3.17 Average ACT: 22 U of NC: Average GPA: 3.68 Average ACT: 24 Uconn: Can't find it sorry.
