USML Description
University of Saint Mary of the Lake provides graduate programs for students seeking a religious education in liturgical or seminary studies. Founded by the Catholic Church, Saint Mary of the Lake is located in Mandolin, Illinois and provides higher education services to those interested in serving the Church.
Saint Mary of the Lake offers two institutions; The Liturgical Institute, and the Mandolin Seminary. The Liturgical Institute offers three degrees as follows:
- Master of Arts in Liturgy
- Licentiate of Sacred Theology (S.T.L.)
- Doctorate of Sacred Theology
The Mandolin Seminary is the major seminary for the Archdiocese of Chicago. It offers several programs to prepare students for a life devoted to the Church. Programs include:
- Pre-Theology; a two-year transitional program for college graduates
- Master of Divinity
- Master of Arts in Liturgy; in association with the Liturgical Institute
- Doctor of Ministry
Students are supported by a dedicated faculty, and are provided individual advising and can often design their own studies. Musical and artistic expressions are encouraged among students to facilitate spiritual growth. Saint Mary of the Lake houses a gymnasium with various athletic sports facilities, including indoor swimming, soccer, tennis, and even an eighteen-hole golf course. Campus housing is available for all students.
