Description

The opportunity to acquire hands-on work experience while taking classes is one of the unique elements of an Essex County College education.

Located in Newark, Essex County College offers nearly many degree and certificate programs in high-demand fields like nursing, business and criminal justice.

The cooperative education and internships division is one of the most outstanding aspects of the Essex experience. It assigns students to jobs in their field of study, which gives them the chance to gain hands-on work experience as they apply and develop skills they’ve learned in the classroom.

Student clubs and organizations are also intended to develop job-related skills, with many clubs related to majors or fields of study.

For students not wanting a career-oriented certificate or degree there is the option to transfer to a four-year college or university. In fact, Essex transfers many students to the Rutgers Institute of Technology and Bloomfield Institute of Technology.

Career seminars and a “résumé clinic” are some of the services offered at the Career Resource Center, which also provides counseling and assistance for students wishing to transfer.

Other student services include academic support such as tutoring and counseling, as well as mental health counseling and services for disabled students and veterans.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, work-study, scholarships and grants for students who qualify.
