Community College of Vermont School Description

The Community College of Vermont is committed to serving and working with people to realize their learning, life, and career goals. We offer convenient access, excellent academic programs, and support.

As a member of the Vermont State Colleges, we play an essential role in ensuring lifelong higher education to Vermonters.

The Community College of Vermont is one of five Vermont State Colleges and has been accredited since 1975 by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. We provide quality, affordable education to over 9,000 students each year.

CCV does not have a central campus with housing facilities. Instead we serve students where they live and work, at 12 learning centers around the state and via the Internet.

CCV is an open-admissions college. Our students range in age from 14 to 78. They enroll for a single course or full-time study, choosing a pace that works for them.

CCV offers about 1000 courses each fall and spring and 400 in the summer. Fall courses start in early September, spring in late January, and summer in late May.

Founded in 1970, CCV is known for its focus on student learning and its expertise in working with adult students.

We offer associate degrees, career-related certificates, and credit and non-credit training programs. Our curriculum includes liberal arts, business, human services, technology, and allied health.

From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

The Community College of Vermont (CCV) is a two year college founded in 1970 with locations in 12 sites in the state of Vermont. The college is a part of the Vermont State Colleges, a consortium of Vermont's five public colleges governed by a common board of trustees, chancellor, and Council of Presidents. Each of the five colleges has its own president and deans. As of 2008, the college had the lowest cost per credit hour in Vermont , and the second largest number of students in the state, the largest being the University of Vermont.

In addition to its 17 associate degree programs and 11 certificate programs, the College offers an Assessment of Prior Learning course, through which students may obtain credit for knowledge acquired outside the classroom, an Introduction to College Studies course designed for high school students, and two study abroad opportunities annually.

History

In 2008, CCV purchased the 22,000 square foot building of the defunct Woodbury College in Montpelier.

Union organizing campaign

In 2006 the American Federation of Teachers, which represents instructors at other colleges in the Vermont State Colleges system, organized a unionizing campaign. The college opposed the unionization effort partially through a mailing effort, and the majority of the faculty voted not to unionize in September, 2006.
