Northwest Christian College is a private, liberal arts college located in Eugene, Oregon and is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ. U.S. News & World Report ranked it in the top twenty baccalaureate colleges in the western United States in its 2008 rankings.
The school was founded as a divinity school in 1895 by Disciple of Christ preacher Eugene C. Sanderson as the Eugene Divinity School. After a series of name changes and a merger, it became known as Northwest Christian College in 1934.
Northwest Christian University is home to the School of Arts & Sciences, School of Business, School of Education, and the School of Graduate and Professional Studies. The School of Arts and Sciences houses the departments of Bible and Christian Ministry, Communication, English, Exercise Science, Global Studies, History, Interdisciplinary Studies, Math, Music Industry, Music Ministry and Psychology. The English program offers TESOL certification. The School of Business includes Accounting and Business Administration, and the School of Education focuses on Teacher Education.
The School of Graduate and Professional Studies offers graduate degrees in Professional Counseling, School Counseling and Education, as well as an MBA. It also includes professional credentialing programs in Accounting, Health Care Administration, Human Services and Management.
On July 1, 2008 the school will be renamed Northwest Christian University, to better reflect the current vision, mission and values of the institution. At the same time, the Bible and Christian Ministry department will be spun off from the School of Arts and Sciences into a free-standing School of Christian Ministry.
