I also like the feel of UC Santa Barbara and the whole surrounding area. Should i just go to the UC i got into or transfer from santa barbara community college to UCSB. Are transfer rates low? ahhh im so scared and confused. P.S im interested in medical school after my undergraduate career. What UC is more equiped to prepare me? =[

If you really like UCSB and that is your dream school, I suggest you go to SBCC first. Santa Barbara community college has a 100% acceptance rate and most people transfer out in two years and go to UCSB since it's near by. Look at it this way, you will make friends ahead of time who are going to transfer to UCSB, just like you will. Transfer rates are NOT low when you come from a CC. You are going to go there just to get your general ed classes out of the way, and you will save lotttssssss of money too. If you go to UCSC and later wish you'd gone to UCSB, then it's too late. You will have a hard time transfering from a UC to another UC. After you spend 2 years at SBCC, you may even decide you want to transfer to another UC, like UCLA... and that's okay. You can apply and have a higher chance of getting accepted since you are coming from a CC. Just think about where you see yourself. Visit UCSC and see if it's the school for you. I personally feel that when you choose to go to a college, you have to feel 100% satisfied. No regrets.

Question: Santa Barbara City College Dorms?

I plan to attend SBCC for the '08-'09 school year. Since I live in Ohio currently, I will have to move somewhere in Santa Barbara. I have heard that SBCC has dorms and just wondered if this is true. If so, where can I apply to live in these dorms?

It is partly true. Tropicana Gardens and Fountainbleau are two student housing dorms that also take city college students. I lived at Tropicana Gardens 3 years ago and it was a great experience i met a ton of friends that i live with still to this day. The dorms are located near the university so you will have to drive or take the bus to city college but its not a big deal cause everyone does it. i would apply as soon as you can. Tropicana is known to be nicer so i would apply there first. The dorms are a great way to meet people and it is mostly freshman, the food there is not bad either. GOOD LUCk

Question: Santa Barbara City College Housing Options?

I plan to attend SBCC in the fall of 2008. I just wondered which living option is better, one of the properties at sbstudenthousing.com or staying in the santa barbara tourist hostel? I want to have a lot of fun since I will be far away from my Ohio home, and need to live somewhere where I won't get bored.

Stay in the student housing FOR SURE. Hostels are places where people crash for a night or two, maybe a week. There is little to no privacy and they are a bit seedy. They are also know for high theft. They can be filled with older, really loud, foreign tourists having a great LOUD time and not wishing to socialize with you as you don't speak German or French or Chinese or whatever. It is not a place condusive to studying at all. Honestly, why would you not stay in the SBCC student housing? You would be with students your own age, who have the same issues as you: classes, graduating, transfering, studying, having fun on a budget. Especially because you are from Ohio, you should go for a smooth and easy transition to life alone, far from home, and in college, which is nothing like HS. I think that I've written to you before. If you would like send me an e-mail and we can get in touch. I went to college here, (SB), and have lived here since 1984. Moving to SB is not the easiest thing. It can be really expensive. Perhaps I could give you some advice before you get here. Hope to hear from you. Best wishes on a bright future, Mike

Question: Attending Santa Barbara City College?

I plan to attend Santa Barbara City College for the 2008-2009 school year. Since I currently live in Ohio, I just want to make sure that SBCC is in a fun area where I won't get bored easily, because I'll only be coming home for Christmas and the Summer and I want to enjoy the next two years of my life. I'm living in one of the SBStudentHousing Properties, and if anyone knows anything about them, please tell me.

You've obviously never been to SB. SB is probably one of the best places to live in the US. There is lots to do. Plenty of clubs and bars. Beautiful mountain hikes. The ocean and tons of water activities. Some great surfing and scuba. Wonderful colleges other than SBCC. It's awesome. I could live anywhere in the US that I want, and I live in SB.

Question: Santa Barbara City College or Santa Monica College?

Hey guys im very interested in attending an community college in CA. I'm out of state(dc) and plan on attending right after high so fall 2008. The ones I narrow it down to are Santa Barbara City College and Santa Monica College. Each one has its pros and cons and right now i'm leaning towards Santa Barbara. I'm afraid if i choose santa barbara i wont get into berkeley because it doesn't have a higher transfer rate than santa monica and if i choose santa monica im afaird that i won't get the college experience that i'll get at santa barbara. My main goal once I get there is keep my grades up so i can transfer to my dream school berkeley or if not berkeley than ucla but still i want to have fun. I'm so torn what do you guys think? And also every time I try to apply for fall 2008 it only shows spring 2008 and summer 2008 can anyone explain these?

Yes, you can walk all over campus, use the beaches and eat at the University Center. You can go into the library too, but you will need to be affiliated with the school (student/staff) to check out a book.

Question: how close is santa barbara city college from university of california santa barbara?

could i like ride my bike to sbcc like the ucsb students who live @ illa vista ????.....ill be live living in illa vista also

I highly doubt you would be able to bike. Most SBCC students do live in IV, there is a bus that goes just from UCSB to SBCC the 15x I think, you can look up all their bus schedules online just google MTD and it should show you.
