College Advice on Nicholls State University

Question: I'm torn between these two colleges.?

I'm a louisiana senior, I've been accepted to Nicholls State University. For a while now I've been in love with the school. The campus is amazing, the size is perfect and the environment is great. Now, University of Louisiana- LaFayette is another option. I love the city, but most of all my friends are going there. If I go to my first choice, Nicholls, I'll be alone. Three hours away from home. ULL is only one hour. Should I go for my plan B school to be with my current friends, or should I go three and a half hours away to my first and best pick, Nicholls, but literally be the only person from my graduating class in attendance there? Friends or first pick?

First pick, hands-down. Your friends can be reached by calling, texting, facebook, email, etc., but you only get one shot at college. Go where YOU want to go. You will make more friends in college, so don't be afraid to be alone for a little bit. And trust me, I went to college based on the fact that my best friend was going there...and we don't talk anymore and aren't even friends whatsoever and I wish a thousand times over I'd gone where I wanted to go instead of going with my friend as a safety net. Things change. Don't be afraid or intimidated by going off by yourself.

Question: How is Nicholls State Univerity as a college?

I am a college student attending Southeastern Louisiana University, and I must transfer to another school. The place is dilapidating in quality. The tuition fees have almost doubled since I attended a year and a half ago, while the quality of education has descended rapidly. The school is overpopulated and, ever since they passed the no-smoking law, people have been terrible, smoking in non-smoking sections, flicking cigarettes at kids' heads, putting out cigarette butts in other people's food. The crime-rate has risen, and Admissions is probably the worst department on the face of earth. Getting a good class is a struggle because students have to literally fight for a spot. I need out. A few years back, I heard Nicholls State University was a good university and I was wondering if I should instead transfer to that school. Could anyone give me a little bit of pros and cons about that school so I can determine if I actually want to transfer? I'd really appreciate it.

Question: Housing availability in Thibodaux, LA?

I am an international student from Serbia, coming to Thibodaux, LA this fall to study at Nicholls State University. I was planning to arrive in late July; however, on-campus housing isn't available until mid-August. Can anyone give me any information on available housing in Thibodaux, other than hotels? I.e. rooms for rent, trailers... Anything helpful is highly appreciated :))

Normally one can find rooms etc on www.craigslist.com however I was surprised not to have any luck finding Thibodaux under all available Louisiana cities. I went searching and found that Thibodaux has a local newspaper online called www.dailycomet.com. If you click on the Market Place, toward the bottom you will find Real Estate and typing Thibodaux in the block/square to perform a wildcard search will result in several listings. If I were in your shoes having traveled overseas before, I would seriously recommend you making accomodations in a hotel/motel as well as planning to come like a week or few days early well before classes start bec you should never commit to anything you can not see firsthand with your own eyes, plus the traveling distance to the campus as well as access to public transportation and grocery/retail stores might definitely be worth a few extra dollars in saves you timewise etc. Best of Luck and Study Hard!
