Marymount Manhattan College
From Wikipedia, The Free EncyclopediaMarymount Manhattan College is a small, coeducational liberal arts college located in Manhattan, New York City, New York. Marymount Manhattan's campus is located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It's often referred to as MMC.
History
Marymount Manhattan College was founded in 1936 as a two- year woman's college by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. It was also an extension of Marymount College, Tarrytown in Tarrytown, New York. It moved to its current location in 1948. In 1950 it became a four year college and became independent in 1961. It currently serves a diverse community of students including men and nontraditional students.
Marymount Manhattan was formally dropped as a Catholic institution in 2005, following the college's announcement of its decision to invite then-Senator Hillary Clinton to deliver a commencement address and to confer an honorary doctoral degree upon her. As a consequence, the school was de-listed from "The Official Catholic Directory," which identifies Catholic institutions. It was reportedly the fourth college to be declared non-Catholic by a Bishop following John Paul II's issuance of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic universities, in 1990. The action by Cardinal Edward Egan came in part after objections led by the Cardinal Newman Society due to Senator Clinton's longtime public support for abortion rights.
In 2005 more than 2,000 students were enrolled representing 48 U.S. states and 36 countries. In conjunction with its core liberal arts curriculum, Marymount Manhattan offers 17 major programs of study, along with numerous minors, certificates and preprofessional programs. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

Question: Is it hard to get into Manhattan College?MY sat scores were not that great my gpa is about a b+, A- and everything else is good. Will I get accepted if I have a good college essay, good recommendations and maintain my gpa. Please help me thank you29 months ago
Best AnswerIt shouldn't be hard for you to get into Manhattan College considering that you're an A-/B+ student. MC is not a very competitive school to get into. What I suggest you do is to go to Manhattan College for two years, and then transfer to a better school. If you do that, you won't regret it. Have fun in NYC! BTW, write a good college essay and get good recommendations if your SAT scores aren't that high. |
Question: Manhattan College Vs. Suny Albany, which one is better for Business???33 months ago
Best AnswerI think they're both about the same for business. Undergrads who go to SUNY Albany definitely find business a popular major. Since they both have good business schools, you should consider some other factors to help you make your college decision, like location and which one offers you a better financial aid package. |
Question: Does anyone know anything about Marymount Manhattan College?I'm extremely interested in their school, but I don't know anyone who goes there so I'd like a first hand story and perception of what it's like... please help?34 months ago
Best AnswerTheir Division of Fine and Performing Arts is the flagship part of the school. That's the area that gets the most attention by the administration. Their academics are not known to be very strong. Those who are not in the performing arts choose the school when they are dying to study in Manhattan but can't get into NYU or Columbia. Those on the MMC livejournal community http://community.livejournal.com/marymount_mmc/ all agree that it is a school that you'll either love or hate, as you need to be more independent to find your support structure in the city, itself. |
Question: has anyone ever heard of marymount manhattan college? is it a good school? is it safe?i want to go there but my mom thinks that new york is dangerous.34 months ago
Best AnswerMarymount manhattan college is a good school overall. As for the safe part, it is a safe school compared to other ity colleges. It's located on the upper east side on 71st st. and lemme tell you, I honestly think that its one of the most safest areas in manhattan because I used to go to school on 76st. st. As for whether it is good or not, it depends on what kind of major you're looking for and etc. It's average gpa is 3.10 and its most popular major is communication and drama/dance. |
Question: Is Manhattan College [not Manhattanville], a good College?I have been accepted, but I don't know if it is a good school. I have a 91% average, and want to go to a decent/competitive school.36 months ago
Best AnswerManhattan College is a good school, but it has no where near the prestige of NYU, which I believe you mentioned elsewhere is your other option. NYU is up there with those sorts of colleges that kids are desperate to get into. It holds prestige like... well, just a notch below the Ivy League. If I were picking simply based on prestige, I'd pick NYU. But of course there are other factors. MC has a very collegy feel to it. It has a real campus. NYU is more urban feeling, there is no "quad" (unless you count Washington Sq Park LOL). MC is a religious based school, and NYU is secular. MC is small, and NYU is much larger. So, which do you, personally, think is a better fit for you? If you haven't done so already, arrange for an on-campus visit at each school. One important question - what do you hope to major in? NYU is a nationally recognised university with some elite, elite, elite programs in certain fields. For example, if you're thinking of acting, your choice is a no-brainer. Unless NYU is a horrible fit for you, it must be NYU. But engineering? MC has one of the top three undergraduate engineering programs in the country, so in that case, I'd pick MC. The main difference between the two schools is that MC is a small, liberal arts college that grants up through the MS. NYU is a large, research institution that grants PhDs. So NYU does get more press. MC is still a very strong school, though. It's simply less known. |
