The mission of Career Institute of Health and Technology was developed through the interests and aspirations of the Board of Directors responding to the needs of local community residents for access to marketable training and to the needs of area companies and agencies for skilled employees.
The mission of the school is to offer the best training possible at a reasonable cost to prepare students for professional careers in allied health and technology. Programs are in areas such as medical billing, business technology, medical assisting, information technology, and service technology.
Career Institute of Health and Technology is concerned about developing the whole person and the faculty and staff is available to all students for academic advisement and individual attention. Our staff and faculty are proud of the services we offer. Goals:
1. To provide modern, well-equipped facilities, highly qualified faculty and state-of-the-art curricula, in order to teach students job related competencies according to their individual needs in becoming employable.
2. To provide counseling and training to develop appropriate work habits and attitudes in order to promote continuous employment and maintain employer satisfaction.
3. To develop appropriate policies and procedures throughout the organization in order to continuously improve quality, coordination and standardization of services.
4. To encourage faculty and staff professional development.
5. To encourage community involvement and respond to community needs.
Career Institute of Health and Technology began in 1988 as Computer Career Center in the Town of Hempstead, New York.
The school specialized in providing training services that would reach out to a population at risk of life-long low opportunity, offering them careers that would lead to skills needed by the local job market. Because of the nature of this target group the founders of the school decided these people would benefit from credentials such as networking certifications and school diplomas. However, the real need of this group is for hands-on experience solving problems in work-like settings. As a result, Career Institute developed the first and most authentic intensive hands-on approach to training. This type of training proved to be attractive not only to the target groups but to students with college backgrounds in need of skills training. About 20% of the current school population has previous college experience.
Working at a twenty-four hour / seven day a week pace, the school founders went into the streets and into the homes of dispossessed young high school graduates, displaced homemakers, down-sized defense industry workers, and unemployed workers with obsolete skills. This heterogeneous population was brought into a modern classroom setting located in the basement of a building in what was once a depressed area of Hempstead, Long Island.
Part of Career Institute’s aim is to create and maintain schools that a graduate can be proud to have attended. We are registered with New York State and the federal government, we are authorized to provide training to Vesid and veterans. We are accredited by the ACICS. Over time, the school has developed into a prototype for career education in the northeast. The school is now a prestigious post secondary school. It is located in modern office buildings in Garden City, Rego Park and Brooklyn.
Our most recent success is the creation of an auto repair and service shop located in the Village of Hempstead where the school began. Students from Garden City, Rego Park and Brooklyn will learn the theory of automobile repair and maintenance at their home campuses, and then attend the auto shop for extensive hands-on experience.
