Los Angeles Pierce College is a good school for students to plan an educational plan for deciding what path to take into their future. It provides with a new and amazing experience for first time college students. The help and resources they offer are great. They are there to help us achieve a higher level of education. The campus is beautiful and the environment is full of hope and new discoveries.

Academics

I am a full time student in this junior college. I work two part time jobs. I am in the EOP&S program that help you with counseling and guidance to an educational plan. Even though school, work, and personal life can be a overload and stressful I manage to pull through because they offer a lot of help with tutors in all subjects. The professors care about our education and want us to succeed. I had an amazing experience with my math teacher Mrs. Srichoom. She helped me get my confidence back about math. The class size is like a high school classroom that averages about 30 students or less, but eventually as the semester goes, students tend to drop classes for several reasons.

Campus Facilities & Safety

I personally like the campus of Pierce College. I prefer this campus than others in the valley. I feel like there is more open space and students seem to get along. The campus has a beautiful library full with computers, group meeting rooms, a good service faculty, and people are comfortable enough to take a nap in between classes. There is a lot of clubs and organizations that are always opening their doors to new members, from book clubs, to math, to language club, to auto club. Parking is always full, but there is parking places all over campus. the campus always has securities keeping surveillance driving around the campus making sure everything is okay.

Overall

My experience at Pierce College has been great. A great thing about Pierce College is the location, right off of the 101 freeway, and it's close to public transportation (the Orange Line). I was intimidated planning out my class schedule, as there are so many options as far as classes to take, however I was able to make an appointment with a Counselor fairly quickly and was able to discuss my career plan and together, we were able to decide which classes would be best for me to take and when.

Academics

The great thing about Pierce is that you are able to log onto their website and in real time see what classes are available. If you wait until the last minute, you will have trouble finding and enrolling in the classes you need, so act quickly once your enrollment date has arrived. If you are a working adult, such as myself, you may want to consider their PACE program, which is an accelerated program that allows you to take 2 classes at a time for a 6 week period each. Following this program, a student can still obtain their credits needed in order to transfer to a 4 yr university in 2 years.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus is currently under construction with updates so there are a lot of newer facilities with state of the art equipment, as well as, older facilities with not so state of the art equipment. The campus bathrooms are not the best either, so make sure you take care of your personal business prior to leaving home/work. As I'm older and going to school, I tend to be focused on my classes so I don't really mingle with too many people. However, through class assignments and such, I've had an opportunity to speak to and meet a diverse group of people that I've really enjoyed working with.

Overall

Pierce College is a nice looking campus, but it's also a very challenging school. Most of the classes require a lot of dedication and commitment. Most professors are very nice and friendly and willing to give of their time to help you succeed in their classroom. The college counselors were okay, some were amazing and some weren't helpful at all. I would suggest keep switching counselors until you find the one who listens to you and is passionate about helping you succeed. You will learn a lot of things from word of mouth. Most of your peers will tell you what professors are good, which ones to stay away from and what counselors will help steer you towards your career goals. You must do a lot of the foot work on your own. At least that's what my experience was. Otherwise, you will be stuck there trying to transfer out of the school forever and eventually give up because you didn't have the guidance. Ask a lot of questions.

Academics

The classes are very challenging and require a lot out of you. I would hear similar comments from other students. When I was attending, Pierce was known as a very challenging school compared to the surrounding community colleges. Of course it also depends on your professor and how competitive he wants to make the class. The class sizes are crowded, in my opinion. Sometimes it may be difficult for some students to get into the class you want. You are at the mercy of that appointment time for your registration. I never had that problem, but I knew several people who did.

Campus Facilities & Safety

Campus parking is better now compared to when I was going. They repaved the parking lot. I felt very safe at the campus, they always have campus police patrolling. In fact, they are constantly on patrol that they are pretty good about keeping a close eye on traffic violations on their campus, so drive safely and follow all rules. I loved the tutoring, you can stay there for as long as you wanted to. The tutoring was available for students at flexible hours during the day and evening. I was a working student so evening tutoring was best for my schedule. They also have great computer lab hours. Overall I wasn't disappointed.
