School Description

Provided by Appalachian Bible College

Appalachian Bible College, the operational arm of an independent mission agency, serves the fundamentalist Christian community in the strengthening of local churches. Educational programs of the College promote the development of responsible Christian character and maturity, and prepare graduates for vocational and volunteer church-related service. These programs consist of a carefully balanced and integrated sequence of college-level courses in Bible and Theology, professional studies, and general studies, as well as co-curricular opportunities for growth through devotional activities, practical Christian service, and active community living.

Extension services of the College provide such activities as conferences, retreats and camps which assist churches and church related groups in achieving their objectives of evangelism and edification.

Founded in 1950 and located in Bradley, Appalachian notably serves as West Virginia's only accredited Bible College. Students from 29 states and 11 countries enjoy the beautiful setting of this 110-acre campus, just north of Beckley.

"Because Life is for Service," the College motto, provides clear ministry focus within the framework of a nurturing, vibrant environment. Combining academic challenge with both local and worldwide ministry outreaches, students readily develop practical application of classroom learning.

Academics at Appalachian are challenging. You will do more than just sit and listen...you will interact and participate in your classes, enriching your learning experience.

Appalachian Bible College's faculty is well qualified spiritually and academically. They have been chosen for their practical experience in various fields of service.

The faculty here at ABC are more than just "Professors." They are model servants, advisors, counselors, and friends. They have a genuine desire to see you grow, not just academically, but spiritually as well.

No matter what class you take, the Bible is integrated into every aspect. You will begin with an overview of Scripture, then progress to in-depth Book studies. Classes such as English and Speech will help you become an effective communicator of God's Word. Theology classes will help you determine for yourself what you believe and why. Classes in Personal Evangelism and Major Cults will help you capably share the Gospel with confidence.

At Appalachian, our goal is to weave the heart of a servant into the very fiber of each student's being. Jesus came to serve, not to be served. He's our model -- our focus must be on His example. Although this is pretty serious business, we sure do have fun in the process! Students will be quick to tell you that they are not only being challenged and stretched but they're having the time of their lives.
